Cook Book Full Sentence Outline
I. Introduction – who doesn’t like Italian food, from pizza to spaghetti; everyone loves it. Hi my
name is Jessica Garrett and I am a senior at Creekview High School. For my Senior Project I
developed a cookbook of Old Italian recipes that have been passed down from generation. I
choice this as my Senior Project because I want to make Old Italian recipes come to life.
II. Body
A. My senior Project was based on Italian cooking, so I needed to research about Italian food and
the traditional Italian history.
1. First I wrote a paper about Italian food.
2. I researched three main Ideas about the history of Italy, Italian families and the food
they eat.
a. history of Italy- Italian cooking has been influenced by diverse groups of
people, historically and in modern time. While there are many differences between regions and
between households within region, the concept of Italian food would not exist unless there were
many similarities as well.
b Italian families-. Italian families hand down their family recipes and traditions
for their future generation so they can pass along the family recipes. It is an important rite of
passage for the women of the family to carry on the original recipes of their ancestor and to not
share the secrets of these foods. People that come to America carry along the tastes and
sometimes also the seeds, recipes and ingredients of their homes.
c the food they eat- Every Italian region has a tradition of its own with regard to
Carnival, Easter, Christmas, and other holidays. Italian family’s also love to cook big meals for
their families and friends to enjoy and get together to celebrate.
B. there were several steps I had to take to get to my final product,
1. Find a facilitator- when I chose to make a cook book I already had in mind who I wanted
for my facilitator. My project facilitator is Teresa Laucella, She grew up in Nusco, Italy and
came to American when she was nine years old. She has had a job cooking for the past fifteen
years. She is a chief at a private school in Alpharetta. I choice Teresa because she has such a
passion for cooking that impressed me. She had to cook for her nine brothers and sisters and also
her Mother and Father.

2. 2. Decide in recipes for the cook book- We sat down and started to choose which recipes we
would use for the cookbook. I chose which recipes that seemed most interesting to me that I
wanted to learn how to cook them. However, there were some recipes Mrs.laucella that did not
want me to include in the cook book because they were very meaningful to her and she only
wanted to share them with family.
3. I tested the recipes
a. Stuff Shells
1. 1 Box of barilla jumbo shells
2. 2 Pounds of whole milk Ricotta cheese
3. 16 oz whole milk mozzarella cheese (shredded)
4. ½ Grated cheese
5. ½ tea spoon Black pepper
6. 3 jumbo eggs
7. ½ tea spoon of garlic powder
8. Table spoon of salt
9. ¼ cup of chopped fresh parsley
Pasta
1. Boil four quarts of water
2. Add 1 table spoon salt
3. ¼ cup of oil to water
4. add pasta cook 12 to 15 min
5. mix all ingredients for filling in a large bowl
6. Fill shells with table spoon
7. Put in large baking pan cover with marinara sauce
8. Bake at 350 for 45 min
b. marinara sauce
1. 1 can of crush tomato 16 oc.
2. ¼ olive oil
3. ¼ canola oil
4. 3 cloves of garlic
5. Sauté’ garlic and oil
6. 2 16 once cans of tomato sauce
7. 2 8 once cans of tomato paste
8. 1 table spoon of garlic powder
9. 1 table spoon oregano leaves
10. Fresh basil 4 to five leave
11. Fresh parsley
12. I tea spoon of crush red peppers
13. Salt and pepper to your liking

3. 1. Using a medium saucepan heat olive and canola oil, onion and garlic.
2. Sauté’ for two minutes
3. Stir in 1 can of 16 ounce crush tomato’s
4. Sauté’ for 5 minutes
5. Stir in 2 cans of 16 ounce tomato sauce and 2 cans of 8 ounce tomato paste
6. Sauté’ for 20 minutes
7. Cook at medium heat
8. Add basely, oregano, salt, pepper
9. Cook at low for an hour
10. You can meat or Mushrooms
4. Plan how to put the book together
After I finished the recipes I started looking into publishing. The challenges we had were: price,
time, format, and distribution. Creating the book in IBook’s Author, and then publishing it to the
IBook’s Store became the easiest and most effective solution. Using IBook’s Arthur to create the
book helped us format and keep a good track of everything. Once the book was finished, we
were able to view it and test it on our IPads before publishing it. Distribution was a huge
deciding factor for using IBook’s. Publishing the book to the IBook’s Store cost us no money
and allowed us to simply share the book with family and friends.
C. I faced some challenges during my project.
The two challenges I was faced with were time management, and measuring ingredients. While
cooking the recipes we chose, she would throw the ingredients in without measuring them. We
spent extra time measuring everything out and double-checking the ingredients. This held special
significance to our project because Teresa’s recipes were not document or documented in Italian
until now.
D. I learned several things from doing this project.
Creating this cookbook was a very fun learning experience for me. Some of the things I learned
were proper ways to cook, keep the kitchen clean, make dishes from scratch, and proportion food
for a large Italian family. Doing this project has given me some insight into the Italian culture
and has helped prepare me for the future.
In conclusion, everyone should learn how to cook one or two of their favorite meals that they
could share with their friends and family. I have learned how to cook some of my favorite meals;
however, I would not like to pursue culinary arts as a career. I would like to pursue a career in
childcare. I just want to say Thank you to Teresa Laucella for all her help. I definitely could not
do it without her. She is a very good friend to me and I appreciate her so much. I also want to
thank you judges for taking time out of your day to come listen to my speech.
