 What is Educational Technology?
Educational Technology is defined by the Association for
Educational Communications and Technology as the “ Study
and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving
performance by creating, using and managing appropriate
technological process and resources.
TECHNOLOGY: BOON OR BANE?
Technology is a blessing for man. With technology, there is a lot
that we can do which we could not do then. When not used properly,
technology becomes a detriment to learning and development.
technology is “made for man and not man for Technology”.

we hardly like.

Technology is BOON when:
 Technology is a blessing to a man. With technology there is a lot that we can do which
we could not do then.
 Technology contributes much to the improvement of teaching – learning process and
to the humanization of life.
 With cellphones, web cams you will be closer to someone miles a way.
 many human lives saved because of speedy notifications via
cellphones.
 Your teaching and learning can be more novel, stimulating, exciting
engaging with the use of multimedia in the classroom.
 With TV, you can watch event as they happen all over the globe.
SYSTEMATIC APPROACH OF TEACHING
it tells that the focus in teaching is the students. Systematized
Instruction Define Objectives, instruction begins with the definition of
instructional objectives that consider the student needs, interests and
readiness.
THE ROLE OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN
LEARNING
TECHNOLOGY can play a traditional role, as
delivery vehicles for instructional lessons or in a
constructivist way as partners in learning process.
IN TRADITIONAL WAY:
 The learner learns from the technology and the
technology serves as a teacher
 in other words the learner learns the CONTENT
presented by the technology in the same way that
the learner learns knowledge presented by the
teachers
IN CONSTRUCTIVIST WAY:
 TECHNOLOGY helps the learner build more meaningful personal
interpretation of life and his/her world
 It makes the learner gather, think, analyse, synthesize information
and construct meaning with what technology presents. Technology
serves as a medium in representing what the learner knows and
what he/she is learning
THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY IN
LEARNING
Today’s generation of students are growing up in a digital
world. Using digital devices in ah huge part of their everyday
experience out of school. Through Google they have access to a
wide wealth of digital information, content and resources.
Will new technology actually improve education ?
The impact of ICT or learning outcomes has been inclusive,
billions of pounds/euros spent – but generally difficult to evaluate
effectiveness in terms of improved results. Nonetheless there are
outcomes that are conclusive, and which indirectly impact on learning
outcomes.
This includes improvements in:
 Engagement
 Motivation
 Independent learning
 Parental engagement
 Student and staff attendance and punctuality
 Extending the children’s learning time
CONCEPTUAL MODEL OF LEARNING
There exists a number of models and theories about
learning that is ideal in achieving instructional goals through
preferred application of EdTech.
These are:
1. Meaningful learning
2. Discovery learning
3. Generative learning
4. constructivism
1. MEANINGFUL LEARNING
If traditional learning environment gives stress to
rote learning and simple memorization, meaningful
learning gives focus of a sequence of words but gives
attention to meaning.
2. DISCOVERY LEANING
This is differentiated from reception (meeting point of
meaningful and discovery learning) in which ideas are presented
to students in a well organized way, such as through detailed
set of instruction to complete an experiment. Ever recalled
why you are so nervous, yet very excited in doing experiment?
It is because of the idea that you are about to discover
something first hand.
3. GENERATIVE LEARNING
Here we have active listeners who attend to learning events and
generate meaning from experience and draw inferences thereby creating
a personal model of explanation to the new experience in the context of
existing knowledge
this viewed as different from the simple process of storing
information. Motivation and Responsibility are crucial to this domain of
learning.
4. CONSTRUCTIVISM
here, the learner builds a personal understanding through
appropriate learning activities and good learning environment.
The most accepted constructivism principles are:
 Leaning consists in what a person can actively assemble for
himself and not what he can just ask from someone else
 Role of learning is help the individual live to his personal world.
THE STUDENTS AFTER EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY 2
The students are ENGAGE in different technology which will
INSPIRE them to do better in life especially in their studies, which will
CREATE their own lives wonderful and happy because of technology.

  • 21. CONCEPTUAL MODEL OF LEARNING There exists a number of models and theories about learning that is ideal in achieving instructional goals through preferred application of EdTech. These are: 1. Meaningful learning 2. Discovery learning 3. Generative learning 4. constructivism
  • 22. 1. MEANINGFUL LEARNING If traditional learning environment gives stress to rote learning and simple memorization, meaningful learning gives focus of a sequence of words but gives attention to meaning.

DISCOVERY LEANING This is differentiated from reception (meeting point of meaningful and discovery learning) in which ideas are presented to students in a well organized way, such as through detailed set of instruction to complete an experiment. Ever recalled why you are so nervous, yet very excited in doing experiment? It is because of the idea that you are about to discover something first hand.
