6. Middle States and Accreditation
Who is Middle States?
The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools is the
regional accreditor for educational institutions in Delaware
and surrounding states. Every ten years, Middle States visits
Delaware Tech to review the college’s accreditation status.
What is accreditation?
Accreditation ensures the college is meeting required
standards; in other words, that we do what we say we do.
7. What to Expect

This presentation explains Delaware Tech’s Student Educational Plan. It then explains what happens during the Middle States Commission on Higher Education visit to the Owens Campus. PAY ATTENTION – you may be approached by commission members during this visit.
The Student Educational Plan or SEP, is an online document that is used by you and your advisor, academic counselor and/or instructor. It was created to keep a record of important academic and career information and is designed to help you achieve your academic and career goals. Advisors, counselors and instructors enter information on your SEP to make note of discussions about career choices, course selection, academic and career goals and much more! Having this information helps advisors, counselors and your instructors provide you with the proper information and resources available to help you be successful at Delaware Tech.
You can view your SEP at any time. Accessing the SEP can help keep you on the path to success. Within the Student Educational Plan, you can see your completed courses and grades, your cumulative GPA, and your advisor’s information. You can also find information about your major, along with the requirements for graduation! Your SEP will evolve as you grow and develop as a student at Delaware Tech.
Here is how you can access your SEP. Login to MyDTCC and at the top of the screen click on ‘Banner.’ Next, click on the “Student Services & Financial Aid” tab. Finally, if you click on “Student Educational Plan,” you will see your SEP. Notice that you are only allowed to view it, you can’t make any changes.Any time an entry is made to your Student Educational Plan, you will receive an email (sent to your Delaware Tech account). The subject line of the email will say “Student Educational Plan Modification.” The email will also tell you how to access your SEP.
On March 3rd through the 6th, a team of people from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education will be coming to Delaware Tech to evaluate what we do and how well we do it.
So who exactly is Middle States? The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools is the regional accreditor for educational institutions in Delaware and surrounding states. Every ten years, Middle States visits Delaware Tech to review the college’s accreditation status. All of you raised your hands indicating you want your degree to mean something. Accreditation ensures the College is meeting required standards; in other words, that we do what we say we do. Being accredited validates your degree so that when you try to get a job, an employer knows the College is adhering to certain standards.
You may be thinking, why should I care about this, let the College deal with these people!? One of the things Middle States team members may do is stop you in the hallway and ask you questions, like, “How do you like Delaware Tech?” or “What is the Student Educational Plan?” or Do you have all of the services or resources you need to be successful? or “How does Delaware Tech support Access, Excellence, Opportunity, and Hope?”The College would ask that you make our visitors feel welcome and answer their questions; this is how they gather information about Delaware Tech. I hope you found this to be informative and realize all the great resources available to you at the College. We work very hard and are committed to your success!
