Jesse Hall<br />Period 5<br />November 23, 2010<br />HWL 9<br />Where I’m from Poem- TTC Edition<br />Northern Child<br />I’m from a place up North, <br />Where people live in long houses,<br />Where ice caps form every now and then,<br />Where people created boats and weapons,<br />Where everyone in a village lived together,<br />I’m from long voyages south,<br />To find and conquer more land,<br />And put an age of darkness on the people already there,<br />Declaring a New Empire above old barbaric people,<br />Who view us as Barbarians<br />I from the voyages to the new world,<br />Following Leif Ericson,<br />Finding and founding Greenland,<br />And Founding Iceland,<br />And setting foot into Canada.<br />I’m from a family of Pagans, <br />I destroyed Christian monasteries and stole their money,<br />I killed the defenseless monks, <br />And left the dead where they died,<br />For which the Vikings named me Bloodshed Kilkenson<br />I tell stories of giants and monsters,<br />Which people call Norse Myths,<br />My favorites containing Thor,<br />The God of Thunder,<br />Like the One in which he tries to prove his strength to the Giant King,<br />By lifting the Giant Cat,<br />But Thor can only lift one of the cat’s paws<br />Now I am all grown up,<br />I lived to the end, <br />But now I die of battle wounds,<br />And enter Valhalla,<br />I was a northern child.<br />
