2. Virtually, all ancient Hebrew literature is
concerned with religion.
•The greatest literature they have produce is
embodied in the Bible and the Talmud.
3. The Bible (from Greek τὰ βιβλία ta biblia
"the books") is the various collections of
sacred scripture of the various branches of
Judaism and Christianity.
4. The Jewish Bible, or Tanakh, is divided into
three parts:
(1) The Five Books Of The Torah ("teaching" or
"law") comprise the origins of the Israelite
nation, its laws and its covenant with the God
of Israel;
5. (2) The Nevi'im ("prophets") containing the
historic account of ancient Israel and Judah
plus works of prophecy; and
6. (3) The Ketuvim ("writings"), poetic and
philosophical works such as the Psalms and
the Book of Job.

groups, History, Prophetic, Books, Lyric
Poetry, Drama, Wisdom Literature and Tales.

development of Christianity. It is made up of
four Biographies of Jesus ( the Gospels ), a

Apocalypse. It has 27 books in all.

26. THE STORY OF RUTH
This is a short story containing a tactful
protest against the forbidding of racial
intermarriage Ruth, Moabites, is revealed as
the ancestor of David, the greatest king of
the Hebrews. The story is famous for Ruth’s
declaration of love of her mother-in-law:
“intreat me to love thee?”
