34. One of your classmates noticed that
there is a relationship between the
difference of numbers in the first (or
last) column and the multiples of the
numbers which stays in one column.
Example in the case of JANE or
JOHN, the difference between
numbers in the column J is 8 and
multiples of 8 is always under the
same letter.
The ability to look for patterns and
to generalize is an important ability
to have and children should have
ample opportunity to acquire it in
early mathematics.
36. We discussed at length the choice of
materials. In the case of shapes,
misconceptions arise when we give
children three-dimensional objects
when they are learning about basic
shapes such as squares, triangles,
rectangles, which are all plane or two
dimensional.
