This document provides a summary of the biblical account of Jesus interacting with a Canaanite woman who begs him to heal her demon-possessed daughter. It notes that initially Jesus does not respond and his disciples urge him to send her away. However, she persists in her faith, acknowledging that even dogs eat crumbs from the master's table. Impressed by her faith, Jesus heals her daughter. The document uses this story to illustrate that there are no second-class Christians or souls, and that God desires all people to come to salvation through faith.

3. Matthew 14:1-4 NKJV At
that time Herod the tetrarch
heard the report about Jesus
(2) and said to his
servants, "This is John the
Baptist; he is risen from the
dead, and therefore these
powers are at work in him.”
4. Matthew 14:1-4 continued (3)
For Herod had laid hold of
John and bound him, and put
him in prison for the sake of
Herodias, his brother Philip's
wife. (4) Because John had
said to him, "It is not lawful
for you to have her.”
5. John 7:1 NKJV After these
things Jesus walked in
Galilee; for He did not want
to walk in Judea, because the
Jews sought to kill Him.
John 7:8 NKJV You go up to
this feast. I am not yet going
up to this feast, for My time
has not yet fully come.”
6. Mark 7:24 NKJV From there
He arose and went to the
region of Tyre and Sidon.
And He entered a house and
wanted no one to know
it, but He could not be
hidden.
7. 1. Matthew’s account states that she was, “a woman of Canaan.”
• Mark 7:26 ESV Now the woman was a Gentile, a
Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the
demon out of her daughter.
2. A mother who recognized Jesus.
• Matthew 15:22 NKJV And behold, a woman of Canaan
came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, "Have
mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is
severely demon-possessed.”
8. 3. She was begging for the Master’s Help.
• Mark 7:25 NKJV For a woman whose young daughter had
an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell
at His feet.
9. Matthew 7:7-8 NKJV "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and
you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (8) For
everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him
who knocks it will be opened.
10. Why Not Send Her Away?
1. She is a Gentile dog.
• Jews looked with disdain at the Gentile world.
2. She is bothering us.
• Matthew 15:23 NKJV But He answered her not a word.
And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, "Send her
away, for she cries out after us."
11. Why Not Send Her Away?
3. The Disciples likely thought Jesus agreed.
• Matthew 15:24-25 NKJV But He answered and said, "I was
not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
(25) Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord,
help me!“
• Mark 7:27 NKJV But Jesus said to her, "Let the children be
filled first, for it is not good to take the children's bread
and throw it to the little dogs.“
• Jesus was not calling the woman, “a dog”
12. Why Not Send Her Away?
Matthew 10:5-6 NKJV These twelve Jesus sent out and
commanded them, saying: "Do not go into the way of the
Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. (6) But go
rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Acts 1:8 NKJV But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit
has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in
Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the
earth.”
13. Romans 1:16 NKJV For I am not ashamed of the gospel of
Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who
believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
There are no second-class Christians:
Galatians 3:28 NKJV There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is
neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are
all one in Christ Jesus.
14. There are no second-class souls:
John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but
have everlasting life. (17) For God did not send His Son into the
world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him
might be saved.
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as
some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing
that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
15.
16. Matthew 15:27 NKJV And she said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the little
dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.”
17. Ephesians 5:25-27 NKJV Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ
also loved the church and gave Himself for her, (26) that He
might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the
word, (27) that He might present her to Himself a glorious
church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she
should be holy and without blemish.
18. 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 NKJV (12) Therefore let him who thinks he
stands take heed lest he fall. (13) No temptation has overtaken
you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who
will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but
with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you
may be able to bear it.
19. Matthew 15:28 NKJV Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O
woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire." And her
daughter was healed from that very hour.
20. Hebrews 11:6 NKJV But without faith it is impossible to please
Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that
He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

It is the Master’s Table
About Herod the Great, Augustus Caesar said, “It is safer to be Herod’s pig than his son.”
The disciples want to send you away. Jesus has said you are like a little dog, not a child.
