Horizontal Testing (HB) Flame applied only once
Horizontal Testing (HB) Specimens must stop burning before the flame reaches the 100 mm mark Specimens must not have a burning rate greater than 40 mm/minute for thicknesses between 3 and 13 mm and 75 mm/minute for thicknesses less than 3 mm HB Requirements   Horizontal Rating
Vertical Testing (V0, V1, V2) Flame is applied twice
Vertical Testing (V0, V1, V2) No specimen can have glowing combustion remain for longer than 30 seconds after removal of the test flame  Specimens must not drip flaming particles that ignite the cotton Specimens must not burn with flaming or glowing combustion up to the specimen holding clamp Total flaming combustion time must not exceed 50 seconds for each set of 5 specimens Specimens must not burn with flaming combustion for more than 10 seconds after either test flame application  V-0 Requirement Vertical Rating
Vertical Testing (V-0, V-1, V-2) No specimen can have glowing combustion remain for longer than 60 seconds after removal of the test flame Total flaming combustion time must not exceed 250 seconds for each set of 5 specimens Specimens can drip flaming particles that ignite the cotton V-2 Specimens must not burn with flaming combustion for more than 30 seconds after either test flame application V-1 Requirement Vertical Rating
Vertical Testing (5V-A, 5V-B) Flame is applied 5 times at an interval of 5 seconds
Vertical Testing (5V-A, 5V-B) Specimens must not have any flaming or glowing combustion for more than 60 seconds after the five flame applications  5V-A Plaque specimens may exhibit burn through (a hole)   5V-B Plaque specimens must not exhibit burn through (a hole)  Specimens must not drip flaming particles that ignite the cotton  Requirements Vertical Rating

Vertical Testing of Thin Materials  (VTM-0, VTM-1, VTM-2) No specimen shall have flaming or glowing combustion up to a mark 125 mm from the bottom of the specimen No specimen can have glowing combustion remain for longer than 30 seconds after removal of the test flame  Specimens must not drip flaming particles that ignite the cotton  Specimens must not burn with flaming or glowing combustion up to the specimen holding clamp  Total flaming combustion time must not exceed 50 seconds for each set of 5 specimens  Specimens must not burn with flaming combustion for more than 10 seconds after either test flame application  VTM-0 Requirements Vertical Rating
