If you can do it, it is a VERB!
 Go  Compare
 Swim  Analyze
 Eat  Interpret
 Follow  Develop
 Drink  Clean
 Listen  Sit
 Fly  Stand
 Believe  Drive
TO TELL THAT AN ACTION IS COMPLETED!!!!!!
FINISHED!!! OVER!!!
 Verbs used to indicate something happened
at a previous point in time.
 Most verbs in the past tense add “ed” to the
    end.
    For example: start becomes started
 Some verbs in the past tense are irregular.
    They totally change spelling.
    For example: wear becomes wore
 Create the past tense by adding an “ed” to the
base verb, if it is a regular verb. If it is an
irregular verb, change the verb accordingly.
For example: We create things. (present)
                     We created things. (past regular)
                     We drink water. (present)
                     We drank water. (past irregular)
English has two types
 of verbs in the past:
         -regular
         -irregular
 Add –ed to most verbs
 Drop the “e” and add “ed” to verbs that end
    with “e” (smile= smiled).
 Change the “y” to “i” and add –ed to verbs
that end with a consonant and “y” (carry=
    carried, study= studied).
 Double the consonant and add –ed to verbs
that end with one vowel and one consonant
    ( drag= dragged, stop= stopped).
The –ed ending in English has three different
 sounds:

t: walked, talked, jumped
d: played, loved, answered
id: invited, waited decided....
*With –id sounding words, there is
another syllable!
 walked regular
 studied regular
 taught irregular
 gave irregular
 became irregular
 cried regular
 lived regular
 did irregular
Sometimes with irregular
 past tense verbs you
 have to change the vowel
 to make the verb past
 tense:

become became
give gave
drive drove
forget
  forgot
 Phonemically (word sorts)
 Bingo!
