AFFECT?
Cervical cancer affects a woman’s cervix
It can affect a woman’s reproductive organs (vagina,
uterus)
It can also move (metastasize) to other areas of the body
by the lymphatic system

In 2012- 12,042 women in the U.S. diagnosed with cervical
cancer
4,074 of them died
The 5 year survival rate is 68%, when caught in an early
stage increases to 91%
5. WHAT ARE CERVICAL CANCER
SYMPTOMS?
• Blood spots or light bleeding between or following periods
• Menstrual bleeding that is longer and heavier than usual
• Bleeding after sexual intercourse or a pelvic examination
• Pain during sexual intercourse
• Bleeding after menopause (period)
• Increased vaginal discharge

7. What can be done to lessen this type of
cancer?
• HPV vaccine if you’re under 26 years old (Gardasil)
• Good hygiene
• Practice no sex until marriage
• Don’t have multiple sex partners
• Don’t smoke
• Eat lots of fruits and vegetables
• Start getting PAP test
8. What goes on in the cell cycle?
• When a few genes in a cell becomes damaged or
mutated it can cause cancer
• The cell may multiply at the wrong time, or in the wrong
place
