                         4. What Baptism Indicates
Understanding how we come to faith…

                             Memorization Verses:
It indicates that the Old Adam in us should by daily contrition and repentance be drowned
and die with all sins and evil desires, and that a new man should daily emerge and arise to
live before God in righteousness and purity forever.
St. Paul writes in Romans chapter six: "We were therefore buried with Him through
baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory
of the Father, we too may live a new life" [Rom. 6:4].
 LSB 596  4. In Baptism we now put on Christ—
 1. All Christians who have been baptized, Our shame is fully covered
Who know the God of heaven, With all that He once sacrificed
And in whose daily life is prized And freely for us suffered.
The name of Christ once given: For here the flood of His own blood
Consider now what God has done, Now makes us holy, right, and good
The gifts He gives to ev’ryone Before our heav’nly Father.
Baptized into Christ Jesus!  5. O Christian, firmly hold this gift
 2. You were before your day of birth, And give God thanks forever!
Indeed, from your conception, It gives the power to uplift
Condemned and lost with all the earth, In all that you endeavor.
None good, without exception. When nothing else revives your soul,
For like your parents’ flesh and blood, Your Baptism stands and makes you
Turned inward from the highest good, whole
You constantly denied Him. And then in death completes you.
 3. But all of that was washed away—  6. So use it well! You are made new—
Immersed and drowned forever. In Christ a new creation!
The water of your Baptism day As faithful Christians, live and do
Restored again whatever Within your own vocation,
Old Adam and his sin destroyed Until that day when you possess
And all our sinful selves employed His glorious robe of righteousness
According to our nature. Bestowed on you forever!
