AS Media: Music Magazine Survey Results
1. •Based on the fact that over 80% of the people who answered my quiz were female I made
the decision to make my magazine mainly aimed at females in order to suit the larger
demographic that seemed to be present.
2. • This question enabled me to really pinpoint the age I should aim for. Knowing that I
would be aiming at 16-25 years olds I looked back at this question and decided that
due to the fact that there was less in the 20-25 year old category I decided that most of
my decisions would be made to suit younger people with a few things that fit in with
the slightly older age demographic.
3. • It became clear from this question that pop in the definite mainstream choice and
as my magazine is set for people trying to break away from the mainstream this
really reinforced the idea that I shouldn’t include pop in my magazine as it
wouldn’t attract my target audience.
4. • Thee fact that the 86.54% of people said they didn’t purchase any music magazine
leads me to believe that there is still room in the market for a new music magazine.
• Also the fact that two of the people who said they did purchase current music
magazines said they purchased Kerrang, showing Kerrang’s techniques work well.
5. • Despite pastel colours being the most popular choice for a mass audience I decided
eventually to go with the black/white/red colour scheme as it fit my target audience
more as they aren’t usually into bright colours.
6. • The people who answered my quiz were in my target age demographic, so this
question showed what price the majority of those people would pay. This is most likely
due to the fact that they are mainly students and can’t afford to pay much.
7. • The fact that 54.65% of people get there music from iTunes shows that the internet
and technology are really overcoming physical copies of things, which actually helped
when I was making the decision as to which publishing device would be best suited for
my magazine and it’s target audience.
8. • The overall consensus for this question was divided between weekly and monthly
therefore I decided to go for fortnightly as it’s in-between so is a compromise between
the two most popular option. This way it is as close to pleasing all the audience as
possible.
9. • Most of the people asked actually wanted the magazine to be gender neutral which
went against my planning for my magazine. When I ended up designing it although I
had the overall idea that it would be mainly for female I did make some of the aspects,
like the colour scheme and content fairly neutral to appeal to a wider mass audience.
10. • Due to the majority of people saying that the image on the front was the main thing
that attracted them to the magazine I decided to be very strict on my front cover image
even meaning that I ended up reshooting as I didn’t think I had photos good enough. If
the audience are mainly attracted to a front cover image then it needs to be a strong
photo to stand out and attract people to my magazine.
