3. INTRODUCTION
For an alternate method to generate electricity there are
number of methods by which electricity can be
produced, out if such methods footstep energy
generation can be an effective method to generate
electricity.
Walking is the most common activity in human life. When
a person walks, he loses energy to the road surface in the
form of impact, vibration, sound etc, due to the transfer
of his weight on to the road surface, through foot falls on
the ground during every step. This energy can be tapped
and converted in the usable form such as in electrical
form. This device, if embedded in the footpath, can
convert foot impact energy into electrical form.
4. CONVENTIONAL AND NONCONVENTIONAL
ENERGY SOURCES
Energy which is produced by such methods which
are quiet familiar to a country is called
conventional sources for that country where as
the sources which are not familier to a country are
called non conventional energy sources for that
country
5. The sources of energy which have been in use for a
long time, e.g., coal, petroleum, natural gas and water
power.
They are exhaust able except water.
They cause pollution when used, as they emit smoke
and ash.
They are very expensive to be maintained, stored and
transmitted as they are carried over long distance
through transmission grid and lines.
Conventional Sources of Energy
6. Non-Conventional Sources of
Energy
The resources which are yet in the process of
development over the past few years. It includes
solar, wind, tidal, biogas, and biomass,
geothermal.
They are inexhaustible.
They are generally pollution free.
Less expensive due to local use and easy to
maintain.
7. Proposal for the utilization of waste energy of foot
power with human locomotion is very much relevant and
important for highly populated countries like India and
China where the roads, railway stations, bus stands,
temples, etc. are all over crowded and millions of people
move around the clock. This whole human/bioenergy
being wasted if can be made possible for utilization it will
be great invention and crowd energy farms will be very
useful energy sources in crowded countries. Walking across
a "Crowd Farm," floor, then ,will be a fun for idle people
who can improve their health by exercising in such farms
with earning. The electrical energy generated at such farms
will be useful for near by applications.
NEED FOR THE SYSTEM
8. BASIC PRINCIPLE
The downward movement of the plate results in
rotation of the shaft of an electrical alternator, fitted in
the device, to produce electrical energy. The top plate
reverts back to its original position due to negating
springs provided in the device
12. WORKING PRINCIPLE
The complete diagram of the foot step power
generation is given above.
The pushing power is converted into electrical energy
by proper driving arrangement.
The rack & pinion, spring arrangement is fixed at the
pavement.
The spring is used to return the inclined step in same
position by releasing the load.
The larger sprocket also coupled with the pinion
shaft, so that it is running the same speed of
pinion.
13. The larger sprocket is coupled to the small cycle sprocket
with the help of chain (cycle).
This larger sprocket is used to transfer the rotation force to
the smaller sprocket.
The smaller sprocket is running same direction for the
forward and reverse direction of rotational movement of the
larger sprocket.
This action locks like a cycle pedaling action. The fly wheel
and gear wheel is also coupled to the smaller sprocket shaft.
The flywheel is used to increase the rpm of the smaller
sprocket shaft.
14. The pinion shaft is connected to the supported by end
bearings as shown in fig.
The gear wheel is coupled to the generator shaft with the
help of another gear wheel.
The generator is used here, is permanent magnet D.C
generator.
The generated voltage is 12Volt D.C.
This D.C voltage is stored to the Lead-acid 12 Volt battery.
The battery is connected to the inverter. This inverter is
used to convert the 12 Volt D.C to the 230 Volt A.C.
This 230 Volt A.C voltage is used to activate the light, fan
and etc. By increasing the capacity of battery and inverter
circuit, the power rating is increased
16. RACK AND PINION ARRANGEMENT
A rack and pinion is a type of
linear actuator that comprises a
pair of which convert gears
rotational motion into linear
motion. The circular
pinion engages teeth on a linear
"gear“ bar–the rack.
Rotational motion applied to the
pinion will cause the rack to
move to the side, up to the limit
of its travel.
17. CHAIN SPROCKET
This larger sprocket is used to
transfer the rotation force to the
smaller sprocket. The smaller
sprocket is running same
direction for the forward and
reverse direction of rotational
movement of the larger sprocket.
This action locks like a cycle
pedaling action.
18. FLY WHEEL
The fly wheel and gear
wheel is also coupled to the
smaller sprocket shaft. The
flywheel is used to increase
the rpm of the smaller
sprocket shaft. The gear
wheel is coupled to the
generator shaft with the
help of another gear wheel.
20. APPLICATIONS
Foot step generated power can be used for agricultural
applications. The generated power can be used for
home applications. It can be used in street-lightening.
Foot step power generation can be used in emergency
power failure situations. Metros, Rural Applications It
can be used as a source for both A.C and D.C
applications
22. ADVANTAGES
Power generation is simply walking on the step
Power also generated by running or exercising on
the step.
No need fuel input
This is a Non-conventional system
Battery is used to store the generated power
23. DISADVANTAGES
Only applicable for the particular place.
Mechanical moving parts is high
Initial cost of this arrangement is high.
Care should be taken for batteries
