Communication Channels in
International Business
Introduction:
Today, communication has been regarded as a backbone for any
organization. Through effective communication channels an
organization can make progress in international business. Many
leaders and owners use various means of communication for
conveying information about companies into outside world.
Organization nowadays is consistently striving hard to gain
more business opportunities in market and adopting more
sophisticated mechanism for conveying the information to its
intended audience (Alessandra, 2007). Communication plays an
effective role in the development of organization being it either
domestic level or at the international level. Various modes of
communication channel help organization to foster their
business operation across the globe and it aims at increasing the
sign of presence at that level. No organization can get
immediate success without using proper communication
3. channels.
When firms access the international market, it needs some solid
and consolidated ways of communication for conveying
information to its external and internal elements. If firms want
to access the international market for gaining the market share,
it must have its own effective course of actions plan with regard
to latest communication tools that can serve in better ways.
Communication can be either made electronically or through
print media organization if organization wants to address the
outside world about its intentions to launch the new products in
market. For internal communication, organization usually
depends on various channels like communicating through
emails, messenger, and telephone or through mobile technology
(Beaumont, 2009).
Problem statement:
Today, organizations face tough competition in the international
market and despite of fact of using most sophisticated tools and
techniques, organizations fail while delivering the intended
products and service. The effective and good communication
channels are regarded as an important aspect for knowledge
transfer. It can, if managed properly, reduce both risks and costs
since both money and time can be saved when
misinterpretations and misunderstandings are avoided. The
choice of appropriate transmission channels and the effective
matching process are a central part of the communication
process. The present research will also look at the various
factors that can be considered to be causing the failure of
communication channel for project. As communication is
backbone for the progress of organization so present research
will also look see which kind of communication channel can
help firm to overcome on the barriers in communication.
The problems associated with effective function of
communication arise due to the misunderstanding, accusations
and hostility. Nowadays, every communication channel within
the multinational organization has its limitations, and these
should need to be focused while convening communication.
4. Furthermore, it is also difficult to integrate several
communication channels use into one because of heterogeneity.
In order to bring smooth communication, the issues involved in
the way of communication should be resolved accordingly.
Some of the communication problems stem from using
ineffective communication tools and techniques.
Purpose
The present study is aimed at knowing the causes of failure for
companies due to poor policies on communication channel. The
researcher aims at exploring the use of communication channels
at international levels for addressing the outside world with
respect of launching new products in market. As it is the
intention and objective of all organizations to obtain sufficient
market share and sustain those share for a longer time period.
Thus the use of information technology for communication
purpose, it is mandatory to know about the nature of project for
which an effective communication plan is launched by
organization. Therefore, huge focus is given to communication
channels by the policy makers in organization.
Research question:
In order to determine the causes of problems associated with
effective communication channels of international businesses,
the present research contains contain the following questions:
· How does communication bring success to firm at the
international level?
· How do communication channels help organizations to gain
competitive advantages?
· How effective is communication modes in conveying the
information to the targeted audience?
· How does organization improve communication channels
strategies in order to increase market share at the international
level?
5. Literature review:
During the last few years, the use of communication channel in
competitive environment has increased rapidly in order to gain
more market access at the international level. Significant
development in the field of information and communication,
many organizations realized to gain more loyalty and
commitment from customers. Apparently, firm’s interaction
with buyers at international market is consistently supported by
the technologies that strongly enable to create more awareness
about products being offered in market. So marketing campaign
through effective use of communication modes has become
progressively interactional and frequent interaction with buyers
can realize firm to offer these products and services that can
satisfy the needs and wants. Bettman, J., Luce, M., and Payne,
J. (2008) expressed that interactivity is trademark for the
epitome change in both marketing and communication. In the
same way, they outline international marketing via mobile
technology as a winning source that can easily convey important
information to customers about the desired products.
According to Blois (2008), many firms used the effective
communication channel for marketing campaign for addressing
the needs and wants of their potential customers at the
international level through various means. By using the various
means of communications, organization develops some
comprehensive mechanism for fulfilling the needs and wants of
their potential customers at the international market that also
increase its business activities (Chiquan, 2010). As ultimate aim
of communication for marketing campaign is to inform
customers about offerings which can in return help companies
to gain loyalty and credibility of customers towards their
products and services at the international level. Scholars like
Brannen (2009) mentioned that the individual needs and wants
can be fulfilled when they are thoroughly informed about the
required products by using quickest ways of communication.
It is due to use of some form of communication modes like
mobile that many firms in the international market develop
6. their strong ties with buyers and stakeholders about brand,
products, services offers, through and messages which are
passed on and delivered to them with huge advantages
(Cameron, R. 2009).
Research Design and Methodology
The design & methodology for the above mentioned research
questions will be primary research. The various stakeholders
that need to be getting the information on the topic are the
normal, multinational organizations’ experts, communication
Channels professionals, government officials and the
researchers of international businesses. The paper throws some
light on the evidential support required to implement the
possible solutions from the past literary work done by the
various researchers in the area. This will enable to gather
information from varied sources as well as verify the real
experience with the past literature review.
1. Primary Research:
This part of the research design aims to explain the numerous
phases that were with the objective of carrying out the primary
research to seek the responses to the investigation problem and
let the researcher undertake the analysis to the next level for the
informed approvals. The investigation will include field study
since the applicants are supposed to respond in the real situation
which is not altered only for the purpose of this research chiefly
to study the outcome of any variation in the variable concerning
to the communication channels in international organizations.
2. Data collection method:
The data will be accumulated from both primary and secondary
sources. Cameron (2009) determined that while primary data is
original by nature and will be collected from the chosen sample;
the secondary details are basically past studies on the current
topic. Both primary and secondary details have been included
in order to meet the research objectives.
Qualitative Techniques Used
The purpose of this kind of qualitative research is to find the
views of the people in the most unbiased manner and evaluate
7. the responses by the researchers. (Myers et al, 2007) The
environment chosen by the researcher are such that the
participants are comfortable, easy and secure to elicit maximum
and sincere efforts and they talk about their point of view
openly. The questions are mainly open ended and "yes" or "no"
questions are avoided. The flexible approach is helpful to the
researcher and mainly applicable to the group interviews or
personal interviews. The researcher should deliberate in what
degree the interview questioning is "recursive." As applied to
questioning, what has been said in an interview is used to
control or define extra questioning. (Myers et al, 2007)
The method used is the in-depth interview of the experts who
work in the organizations that are responsible for the effective
functioning of the communication within the organizations. The
process of the interview will be as follows. A loosely structured
interview questionnaire will be formed in order to indicate the
flow of conversation with the experts so as to direct the
conversation in a particular format and address all the important
points. The structure will enable the interviewer to ask relevant
questions along with providing enough time and opportunity to
the expert to put forth the central as well as peripheral solutions
to the problem.
Data Analysis plan:
The data analysis plan for qualitative data will be diverse with
regards to the present study. The qualitative data being
narrative or descriptive by nature will be collected and stored
by the interviewer. As it was not possible to measure or
quantify the qualitative responses, it was mentioned in the same
manner as collected. However, the responses are gathered by
interviewer in ranks high, medium and low. The Data that are
collected from in depth interviews are completely qualitative in
nature because they are collected on the basis of individual’
opinion and the number of participants are very less (8-10) and
the profile of the participants is kept as uniform as possible to
avoid any kind of argument and clash of opinions.
Conclusion:
8. The conclusion will be supported in the light of the gathered
data and it will be fully analyzed with regard to research
questions and responses from chosen sample. . The conclusion
will also be supported by the literature review.
The conclusion will also highlight about the potential of usage
of communication channel at international level. In conclusion
part, the researcher will give some recommendation which will
be tied with research question for fostering the use of
communicational channel at international level.
