Protégé Center for Cohesive Learning & Development exists with a vision to empower through education. It is the
fruit of the coming together of knowledge, experience and wisdom in various fields and shared vision. From Campus to
Corporate, whether Organization or Institute, Student, Professional or Entrepreneur, Employer or Employee,
Protégé is the answer for your Training & Development needs.
Training may be described as an endeavor aimed to improve or develop additional competency or skills in an employee on
the job one currently holds in order to increase the performance or productivity. Technically, training involves change in
attitude, skills or knowledge of a person with the resultant improvement in the behavior. However, for training to be
effective it has to be a planned activity conducted after a thorough need analysis and targeted at specific competencies.
Most importantly, training has to be conducted in an atmosphere, conducive to learning.
Lots of times training is confused with development. However, both are different in certain respects and yet are
components of the same system. Development implies opportunities created to help employees grow. It is more of a long
term focused engagement or futuristic in nature as opposed to training, which focus on the current job. It also is not
limited to the job avenues in the current organization but may focus on other development aspects also.
While Training is the responsibility of the Employer, Development requires the participation of both Employer &
Employee in an organization.
Training & Development is also crucial for the Individual Professional or Entrepreneur who has multiple job roles &
workplace responsibilities, which require for him or her to possess additional skills that they do not have. Many times such
Training & Development or the lack of it determines the eventual success or failure of that Individual.
Training in Survival Skills, Emotional Literacy, Soft Skills & Behavioral Skills is our core competency area. The key
element of our vision is to make the programs available to the school and college students. Early starters in Training &
Development Programs almost always have a big advantage over others.
We provide end-to-end Training & Development Services, starting from Need Assessment to Program Development &
Design, Training Materials, Delivery & Evaluation. We have also developed a range of programs to choose from. Train
the Trainer Programs are also conducted periodically for specific skills. Apart from the programs we directly conduct,
our services are also available to facilitate your Training & Development Programs, Product Launches, Induction Training or
even just another fun day out! At Protégé we have the CONNECTED RESOURCES to produce POWERFUL RESULTS.
Warm Regards,
Joel S Godi

OUTBOUND TRAINING
The concept of using the outdoors as a tool in management training was first developed in the
1940's by Dr. Kurt Hahn, a philosopher outdoorsman who believed that the outdoors has many
lessons for city people, which will enhance their personal thresholds as well as group thresholds. It
was Dr. Hahn's belief that advancing civilizations and technology were depriving many persons the
opportunities to develop self-reliance, physical fitness and a compassion for others.
In today's world, the need of the hour is for smart thinking, swift action and effective people
skills - qualities that are more effectively developed in an experiential setting rather than through
classroom training.
Outbound programs are usually conducted in wilderness sites far removed from human civilization.
In a tranquil and informal environment, up close with nature, people are found to become more
introspective and uninhibited, paving the way for a complete and effective learning process. In
OBT participants tend to bond together in a way that is impossible in an urban office atmosphere
with its attendant worries and stress.
Additionally, in unfamiliar environments and unpredictable situations, stretched beyond their
normal comfort zones, people tend to lose their inhibitions, shed their masks and become more
receptive to learning. In the environment thus created, it becomes possible for a sensitive and
experienced facilitator to identify strengths and trouble areas, and suggest new coping behavior.
Outbound training is particularly relevant to today's society as it demonstrates to people that they
in fact do possess the necessary internal resources required of them; that in spite of differences
in backgrounds they can live and work together; and that it is intrinsic to human nature to be
helpful.
An established corporate training tool in Western countries, OBT is gaining increasing popularity
in India today as more and more corporate houses discover its ability to solve a number of issues

that cannot be completely addressed in classroom training situations. The most obvious - and
immediate - benefits of OBT is a building up of interpersonal relationships, trust and bonding.
The crux of OBT lies in taking a group of people away from their normal environment into the
outdoors, and placing a new, unfamiliar set of challenges before them, in the solving of which a
whole lot of new equations are thrown up. The program works on the principle that when a team is
thrown together in wilderness or adventure settings, where they have to fend for themselves and
meet challenges together, there is growth in many directions.
At the operational level, outbound learning works on the following assumptions:
• People generally have more resources and are more capable than they think they are.
• A small heterogeneous group is capable of successfully coping with significant physical and
mental challenges.
• Learning is more successful when problems are presented rather than solutions or
methodologies.
• Stress and shared adventure serve as important catalysts in the discovery process.
• The single most important factor that determines a person's future is his idea of self.
• Significant, long-lasting learning can be achieved through an intensive, short-term
experience.
ADVENTURE EDUCATION
Adventure education is the promotion of learning through adventure centered experiences.
Adventure centered experiences can include a wide variety of activities, due to the different ways
people experience adventure. Adventure education is related to adventure
programming, adventure therapy, and outdoor education. It is an active process rather than a
passive process of learning that requires active engagement from the learners as well as the
instructors.
Often adventure education is linked to an incorporation of all five senses within the experiences
which can heighten the opportunities for learning and retaining information. The learning
experiences within adventure education programs are structured for a potential increase in
human performance and capacity. Programs should include mental, emotional, and physical
challenges, and encourage concurrent mastery in all three domains. The GRABBS model (Goals,
Readiness, Affect, Behavior, Body, and Stage of Development) is a good method for matching
activities and participants.
Adventure activities may include Trekking, Bicycling, Rock Climbing, Rappelling, Slack lining, River
Crossing, Zip Lining, Bungee Jumping, Hot Air Ballooning, Para Sailing, Para Gliding, Scuba Diving,
Sky Diving, etc.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, and is more specifically defined
as "learning through reflection on doing". Experiential learning is distinct from rote or didactic learning,
in which the learner plays a comparatively passive role.
Experiential learning focuses on the learning process for the individual. Thus, one makes
discoveries and experiments with knowledge firsthand, instead of hearing or reading about others'
experiences. Experiential learning can exist without a teacher and relates solely to the meaning-
making process of the individual's direct experience. However, though the gaining of knowledge is
an inherent process that occurs naturally, a genuine learning experience requires certain elements.
According to David Kolb, knowledge is continuously gained through both personal and
environmental experiences. Kolb states that in order to gain genuine knowledge from an
experience, the learner must have four abilities:
• The learner must be willing to be actively involved in the experience;
• The learner must be able to reflect on the experience;
• The learner must possess and use analytical skills to conceptualize the experience; and
• The learner must possess decision making and problem solving skills in order to use the
new ideas gained from the experience.

Experiential learning is distinct from rote or didactic learning, in which the learner plays a comparatively passive role. Experiential learning focuses on the learning process for the individual. Thus, one makes discoveries and experiments with knowledge firsthand, instead of hearing or reading about others' experiences. Experiential learning can exist without a teacher and relates solely to the meaning- making process of the individual's direct experience. However, though the gaining of knowledge is an inherent process that occurs naturally, a genuine learning experience requires certain elements. According to David Kolb, knowledge is continuously gained through both personal and environmental experiences. Kolb states that in order to gain genuine knowledge from an experience, the learner must have four abilities: • The learner must be willing to be actively involved in the experience; • The learner must be able to reflect on the experience; • The learner must possess and use analytical skills to conceptualize the experience; and • The learner must possess decision making and problem solving skills in order to use the new ideas gained from the experience.
