Lafayette Community Garden and Outdoor Education Center in Lafayette, California. A non-profit, volunteer organization affiliated with Sustainable Lafayette, a 501(c)(3) non profit corporation.
2. LOVE LAFAYETTE
“I see the Community Garden as a learning
center, just like the Library, but outdoors. It
will be an invaluable vehicle for the
community to learn about food, native plants
and wildlife, soil, composting, and ultimately
sustainability.”
- Steve Richard - Sustainable Lafayette
9. BUILDING
A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Sustainable Lafayette invites community members to help build
the Lafayette Community Garden & Outdoor Learning Center
Help our community thrive by offering experiences and
workshops about
sustainable ways to grow nutritious food
the nature and dynamics of our rich ecosystems
how to best protect and conserve our precious local water
supplies
the joy of cooperatively working together
11. MANY HANDS
Many hands planted the seeds for this garden.
In December of 2008, members of Sustainable Lafayette Local
Foods Group imagined building a collaborative community garden
and outdoor education center. And, from this seed of an idea, a
mighty garden is growing.
Brainstorming sessions led to plans drawn up in 2010. An
agreement reached in 2011 with EBMUD and the City of
Lafayette placed the garden across from the Lafayette Reservoir.
More than 70 local families have expressed an interest in building
the garden and hundreds more are following the progress of this
project at www.sustainablelafayette.org.

13. LOVE LAFAYETTE
“I think this will be a great addition to our
community. It fits in with what we’re trying
to accomplish through the Environmental
Task Force. It will be a good teaching garden,
bring to light the richness of our community’s
environment and, at the same time, the
challenges we all have to keep it thriving.”
- Carl E. Anduri - Mayor
