This is a presentation that I did for our group recently.
It was a really brief presentation and fun to do.
It is actually based on a scenario where a woman is stranded on an island and this is how to best utilize her resources by our determinations.
I generally put movies and/or sound into my presentations because it really gets peoples attention right off of the bat - even if it something simple like I did with the intro to this one.
2. Day One Water Two Hours Make a Spear Two Hours Build a Shelter Four Hours Water 1st priority Needed for Life Need by the end of the day Spear Can use it to fish Can use it to hunt Shelter A storm is coming tomorrow… But when is not stated
3. Day Two Fishing Four Hours A Day and a half Of Food Make a Fire Two Hours Start Making Clothes Two Hours It takes a total of 4 hours Fishing 2nd priority Needed for Life Need by the end of the day Fire If Amy like’s her food cooked Clothing task may be split over 2 days
4. Day Three Finish Making Clothes Two Hours It takes a total of 4 hours Build a Signal Fire Four Hours Fishing Two Hours Clothes Started yesterday, finished today optional in the tropics Fire for showing her location Fishing now has enough from yesterday & today
5. Resources Knife It is her original tool Spear What she fabricated to help collect her food. Water a must have resource for survival Food another must have for survival Fire optional but a cooking necessity. Clothing protection from the elements Amy She is also resource, the most valuable one
6. Risks Death from starvation, malnutrition or beasts No Rescue She could be stuck here a very long time Injury What happens if she takes ill or gets injured Insanity for some people to not have contact with anybody else
7. Technology Nothing that we would consider technology. a knife to build with a spear to hunt and fish with No Cars, Boats or airplanes Cell phones or transmitters TV, Cable, Internet, Radio Electricity Sanitary Facilities would be difficult to construct
8. Opportunity Costs Clothing Pass on clothes for a couple of days in return for shelter before the storm Or she could eat her fish cold on day two and make it all in the second day It is the tropics and she is alone…clothes can really be optional.
9. Scarcity Stores Cannot just go to the local market for food or the Mall for clothes Communications No phones nor radio nor TV Housing None but what she makes Tools Just what she carried (?) with her Other People there does not seem to be anyone else here
10. Economics Allocation of Resources; 8 hours a day to work How she budgets her time will determine what goods she gets in return She has to conserve her energy
