Prizes
$10,000 in cash prizes:
1st Place:  $3,000
2nd Place: $2,500
3rd Place: $1,500
4th Place: $1,000
5th - 8th:  $500
Judging Criteria
• 25% – Clear identification of
  assumptions, description of assumption tests, and
  findings
• 25% – Team’s ability to iterate and pivot based on
  your process of discovery
• 25% – Progress made in arriving at a “nailed”
  business model
• 25% – Knowledge of a bona fide pain substantiated
  by customer discovery and development
Judging Process
Round 1:
Judging panel selects top 20 entries

Round 2:
Judging panel ranks top 8 teams

Round 3 (BMC Final):
Top 4 teams present to judges on Fri, Jan 25
Submission
1.     Create slide presentation (8-min. max)
     • Identify assumptions
     • Test assumptions
     • Pivot

2.     Sync to Audio > You tell the story
     • PPT PC: Slide Show > Record Narration
     • PPT Mac: Slide Show > Record Slide Show
     • Keynote: Play > Record Slideshow

3.     Submit before Midnight, Wed, Jan 16

• 2nd competition of Utah Entrepreneur Series, a
  multi-school competition hosted by the U of U
• Each school hosts own OQ. Winners from each
  school are automatically advanced to semi-final
  round of the Utah Entrepreneur Competition

Submitted on the same form as the BMC
• Option 1: Check the box on the BMC submission form
  to use your same BMC presentation
• Option 2: Don’t check the box, and upload a separate
  video and executive summary for the OQ.

  1. Judges are faculty members at BYU and UVU who are experts in the Business Model process. Judges include Nathan Furr (founder of the BMC and author of NISI), Craig Earnshaw, John Richards, Scott Petersen.
  2. Round 2: Top 4 are invited to present at final eventRound 3 judges: Nathan Furr, someone from the CET, and one non-BYU judge-Open to public -Judges select winners
  3. To enter, create a presentation (eight minutes or less) that tells the story of yourstartup following the entrepreneurial process. The three keys to the BMC – identifyassumptions, test assumptions with customers, pivot – can serve as the outline foryour presentation.* You presentations should be synced with audio so that you can talk us through thestory. PowerPoint If you create a presentation in Powerpoint, add audio by:PC: Go to Slide Show > Record Narration. (See a tutorial for this option.)Mac: Go to Slide Show > Record Slide Show.Keynote If you create a presentation in Keynote, go to Play > Record Slideshow.
