2. The Flapper
During the Roaring 20’s, women
gained more rights and started to
break the rules of society. They
expressed their power by wearing
shorter skirts, listening to jazz
music, and cutting their hair
shorter which was frowned upon
by people. The term “flapper”
was used to describe the young
girls that did this.
3. Automobiles
Automobiles were one of the greatest inventions
during the 1920’s. They allowed for families to travel
to cities for entertainment. They also helped
businesses grow like gas stations, repair shops, motels,
and shopping centers. It impacted most of the lives
of people that lived in the suburbs by adding paved
roads and traffic signs.
4. Discovery of King Tut’s
Tomb
King Tutankhamun was an Egyptian pharaoh that had
buried and hidden for more than 3,000 years until
1922. Howard Carter was the one who made the
discovery of his tomb while he was working in Egypt.
The tomb had been overlooked for so many years
because of its small size.
5. Baseball During the 20’s
The cultural changes of society
helped bring changes to the
game of baseball during the
Roaring 20’s. Babe Ruth was
one of the most well know
players during this time. He
broke the world record for
homeruns. Baseball was at its
golden age during the 20’s and
it became more popular.
6. Al Capone and the St.
Valentine’s Day Massacre
In 1929, Al Capone was responsible for the murder of
seven mob associates that were part of a prohibition
conflict between two gangs. The two gangs were Al
Capone’s South Side Italians and Bugs Moran’s North
Side Irish. Capone organized an assassination attempt
of Bug’s gang members. The assassination took place
on Valentine’s Day.
7. Charles Lindbergh 1st flight
across the Atlantic
In 1927, Charles Lindbergh flew the
Spirit of St Luis across the Atlantic. He
flew it solo to win the $25,000 prize.
He was the first one to successfully
fly the plane across the Atlantic. After
his journey, people changed their
opinion about flying.
8. Teapot Dome Scandal
The Teapot-dome Scandal
took place in 1923. it was a
bribery incident that took
place in the United States
during the Harding
Administration. Fall and
Harding took control of oil
companies and were guilty of
bribery.
9. Ku Klux Klan
Prohibition was a big debate during the 20’s
and it started the rise of the KKK. They
went from just hating blacks to
discriminating other ethnicities. They went
after anyone who was for prohibition. The
issue with the KKK became much worse.
