Grit Essay Examples
Grit is a predictor of academic, professional, and personal success. Grit can be defined as strength
of character or the ability to overcome failure and continue to work toward success. People with
grit are not always the people with the most natural ability, but their work ethic and ability to
overcome obstacles allows them to achieve success. Grit is a very valuable characteristic in almost
any venture, as it gives someone an advantage in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they will face.
However, grit is much easier adopted when an individual has a growth mindset. The first step to
obtaining grit is to correlate both self–control and self–confidence when trying to reach an objective.
By doing this, one can focus on the task at hand...show more content...
I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year
I promised myself to push through all the six mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times,
lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I
set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when
I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team
won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The
transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of
becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just given up that first day of practice, I
wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people
that are now my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being
physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways than one. Still, if someone
has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to
an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use
the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with a growth mindset believe
that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, brains and talent
are just the starting point.

Essay On Black Lives Matter
Black Lives Matter is an international activist movement that started within the African–American
communities. This movement is organized by Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi. Ever
since the black people have stepped on American soil, they have continued to be victims of racism
and violence. From slavery to lynching to segregation, the black people have suffered alot in this
country. In the past few years, there are so many of them that have been targeted by the law
enforcement authorities across the country. This movement's goal is to raise awareness of racism and
violence against African–Americans. They wants African–American to live with dignity and respect
like other Americans do.

People continue to use this hashtag to convey their message. Social media has helped a lot of people
be aware of this movement. As more people know about this movement, the use of this hashtag will
continue to increase.
This video shows how protesters block all lanes of I–94. The police officers gave them twenty five
warning to leave. Yet, some people chose to stay and continue to protest. According to the police,
the protest turned into a riot and some people threw rocks and bottles on the freeway. During this
act of violence, twenty one police officers were injured. In order to cease those protestors, the police
officer used non–irritant smoke and sprayed mace. At the end of the protest, 50 people were arrested
for three degree rioting.
There is usually a protest after an unarmed black person is killed by a police officer. By
protesting, they try to seek attention to shooting of black people by disrupting commerce and
preventing people from commuting to one place to another. After Alton Sterling and Philando
Cartile were shot by a police officer, the Black Lives Matter marched on the streets and blocked
highways in July 2016 in Minnesota. In December 2015, they even disrupt local business on a busy
holiday shopping with peaceful protest. Despite getting warnings, the Black Lives Matter
organization gathered in a Minnesota Mall. They compelled some of the stores to be closed for
hours. They said there will not be any business until they get

Minecraft Essay
Minecraft is a game where the player uses their imagination to shape the world around them using
the resources they find. In the world everything is shaped like a block or a cube, this includes the
trees, the dirt, the water, the clouds, even the sun, everything. This simple game hasn't even been
released yet but has already sold over one million copies. Minecraft was created by one man,
Markus "Notch" Persson, and this is his story. What makes the story of Minecraft so unique is that
it was created by Notch and only Notch. Notch had a job before Minecraft, working on games for a
company. He started to work on Minecraft in his free time but after a giant popularity spike he
realized that it could be a hit, so he quit his job and began...show more content...
The game sells around 10,000 copies per day. It has become a cultural phenomenon and on
January 12, 2011 sales passed the one million mark, but they continued to rise. With popularity
increasing, big name comics like "Penny Arcade" and "Hejibits" discovered the game too and
published comic strips about minecraft, leading to even further sales. Minecraft makes $250,000
a day and continues to do so. On June 13, 2011, Minecraft passed 2.5 million sales. Today Mojang
has 10 employees. Markus Persson, Jens Bergensten, Daniel Kaplan, Junkboy, Jakob Porser, Carl
Manneh, Tobias Mollstam, Aron Neiminen, Daniel Frisk, and Daniel Rosenfeld. These few
people make up the team that continues to work towards Minecraft's future. But with so few
employees things take time. Even though the game has not been officially released, people who
buy the game get a copy of what it is right now as the updates are being pushed out. With such
success Mojang is the target of some heavy criticism from blogs, critics, and even their own fans.
One speculation from fans is that Minecraft will be the company's 1 hit wonder. What happens if it
truly is a one hit wonder? Will the company go down under? Will it be the end of Mojang? Will
they join a publisher in order to stay afloat and lose their title of "indie?" Another speculation
concerns Mojang's next game that has absolutely nothing to do with Minecraft, not even in the same
genre. What if nobody likes the game? What

Schools Need Dress Codes
Dress codes in public schooling have recently been a controversial issue nation–wide.
Mandatory uniform policy's measures and emphasize the benefits of students on specific behavioral
and academic outcomes. The arguments for the issue are just as strong as those against the issue.
There are two main points surrounding school uniforms: performance and school and reduction of
violence due to uniformity.
Uniforms are argued to positively affect student safety by: lowering student victimization, decreasing
gang activity and fights and differentiating strangers from students in school building. Dress codes
in public schools would be good, in order to cut down the violence, which would eliminate the

A dress code will allow students to make friends on their personal qualities, rather than appearance.
Too often students classify other students but the way they dress. Many students avoid some of their
classmates because of the way they dress, rather than trying to be friends with them (Brunsma 5–6).
Students would make friends with people that have the same common interests with themselves,
rather than people that dress like them.
The anonymous author of Rules of Fashion says that the dress code is one thing that has served to
lower crime, violence, and increase attendance and increase learning at a lot of schools. And a dress
code itself and important statement because we want our young children, whether rich, poor, or
middle class, when they're in school to define themselves primarily in terms of what's going on
inside, not what they're wearing not he outside (Anonymous 2).
As with any issue, there are people who are on both sides of this issue. The argument for school
uniforms says that uniforms decrease violence in the schools. People who argue this side of the issue
state that when the students wear school uniforms, that the number of infractions on the rules is
decreased. The argument against the issue says that there are other programs that the schools can
undertake that produce the same effects with out the school uniforms.
Jan Conley, author of the article School and Dress Codes says that people that are against dress
code policies stress the legal and

Hair Loss In African American Women Essay
What causes baldness or hair loss in African American women?
Hair loss is a major cause for concern among African American women and much of the issues
related to hair loss is unique to the community of black women. While there are medical conditions
that can result in hair loss and baldness be it permanent or otherwise, the leading causes of hair loss
among African American women are related to hair care practices and styling techniques prevalent
in the African American community. Women of other races may speak of messy buns and bed
head but not African American women. We believe our styles need to be sleek and neat or tight and
right. We are not about that 'messy' hair life and its costing us our strands far too many cases. Here's
why.

Relaxers weaken the hair because it breaks the bonds within the hair shaft and destroys the hair
proteins in the process. Over time relaxers can weaken the hair significantly leading to breakage
and hair loss. Relaxers may also burn the scalp resulting in immediate permanent damage or
damage that occurs over time, also resulting in loss of hair and baldness. Relaxers may be a
contributing factor and often times it is only a part of the problem as other practices are utilized in
the styling of the already weakened relaxed hair to push it over the breaking point.
Heat styling
Heat styling appliances such as hot combs, curling irons and flat irons are widely used in the
African American community. By to breakage themselves they can cause hair to break even if heat
protectants are used. Add heat to relaxed hair or dry color treated hair and again you create a
problem. Attacking the hair on multiple fronts until surrender and in this case breakage results.

Essay On I Am Malala
The book "I am Malala" tells the story of eleven year old girl that campaigned and fought for
woman's rights and for the Taliban to allow them to go to school. Malala had an extremely tight nit
family bond along with very supportive parents. She always had their support especially from her
father Ziauddin. I believe that if I had a daughter so young that wanted to make such a big
difference in her country I would stand by her one–hundred percent and push her to set out her
dreams. That is exactly what her parents did, they always encouraged her to do whatever she put her
mind to even now in present day.
Malala at age fifteen was shot by a Taliban man, for standing up for woman's rights to go to school.

to put an end to that.
Malala wanted to make a difference in how unequal woman's rights were, and she would go to all
costs to make it happen in her country. Her father said since she was a baby that this child is
special, and she was. If my child wanted to take a stand at eleven for woman's rights I would be
shocked to say the least. I would've brushed it to the side and forgot about it. Malala had a very
strong support base because I would not have let my child of eleven protest which she could have
gotten killed for. Malala was brave, she even said she was not afraid to die. Most would have
been more comfortable if she was "older" and "wiser". Which I think is a common misconception
on young people. More seasoned people think that just because a child is young they cannot have
a big voice or have an opinion on society because they have not experienced as many years on earth
as them. Malala broke the mold and she protested what she felt was right, even though she ended up
getting shot in the face for it. Was it worth it? I think it was worth it.
In conclusion I support the fact that Malala's parents allowed her to fight for woman's rights, and to
stand up for what she believed in. Malala's shooting affected people across the world and she was
even nominated for

Essay about Night by Elie Wiesel
Night is a novel written from the perspective of a Jewish teenager, about his experiences as a
prisoner during the Holocaust. Our teenager named Eliezer grew up in the small community of
Sighet, located in Hungarian Transylvania. It's here that Eliezer studies religion, both the Cabbala
and the Torah. At the beginning of the war Eliezer was dedicated and absolute in his belief of God,
but throughout the events of World War II his faith slowly starts to wither away. Eliezer's main
conflict that governs the story would be sustaining his belief in God. This becomes especially hard
throughout the book, as he has to face more and more challenging issues. Moshe the Beadle is the
one character that Eliezer learned about his faith from, Moshes...show more content...
It's in these moments that Eliezer has lost all faith he had in humanity and religion, which he had
previously learned from Moshe. One point in the story that Eliezer questions his faith in God is
when they are forced to watch the hanging of other prisoners, one time the Gestapo even hangs and
kills a small child for being associated with the rebels. It seems that during this point the prisoners
start to react for means of survival only, family members were turning on each other. The prisoners
turn cold hearted and cruel towards each other because now their only concern is survival. Because
of the horrific events in the concentration camp and the ever–present risk of death does Eliezer begin
to lose his faith in humanity and his God. Eliezer has a tough time understanding how the world
and the Gestapo can be capable of this much fury. Because his teachings tell him that God is
good, and since God is everywhere the world therefore must be good. Another strong theme from
the book is the importance of family bonds, especially if that's all you have left in harsh
conditions. Eliezer has a hard time watching the other families interact because they no longer
share a special bond of love but instead share the idea of selfishness. More than once Eliezer
experiences the rupture of the bond a family shares between both the father and son. He describes
his bond with his father as a support system; they both ensure the other has enough to survive

Abortion
In 2008, twelve women taking resident in the U.S. died due to legal abortions performed during the
second or third trimesters of pregnancy. Abortion should be available to all females living in the
United States, but must be a legal citizen to have late abortions, which are during the second or third
trimesters of pregnancy. Abortion is a right that women have, and the Fourth Amendment "Search

Health Insurance Essay
The main function for health care financing is to pay for health insurance premium and reimburse
health providers for services delivered. Still, there is a crucial challenge when creating health
insurance plans, provide coverage for "health care needs without encouraging unnecessary
spending." (Maas) Over time, health care financing has been evolving, and now consumers can
acquire health insurance through government programs like Medicare, which it is for the elderly, for
certain individuals with disabilities and end–stage renal disease. Therefore, any person who meets
the requirements can enroll to this program. Also, there is Medicaid, which it is the program for the
poor, and Children's Health Insurance Program best known as CHIP, which insure kids who come
from low–income families. Nonetheless, there are several types of private insurance like
self–insured plans, individual private health insurance, Medigap, and group insurance program,
which it is "... a substantial number of people in the group will purchase insurance through its
sponsor." (Shi, 2019, p. 224) Further, thanks to the diversity and wide range of health insurance

spending, "but the value of this care is less than its cost, generating... loss." (Nyman, 2004)

there is a "potential to increase health care costs." (Thoma,

Ocean Pollution Essay
Everything in this world we use comes from the ocean in some way. The air we breathe, the water
we drink, even the products we use day to day, would not be possible without the ocean. That's
why the issue of ocean pollution is so important and needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
We depend on the ocean for so much in our life, without it we would surely become extinct.
People seem to think that since the ocean is so large and vast, we can dump as much waste as
we'd like into it and it will never have an effect on us. However, since we've been polluting the ocean
as far back as Roman times, the evidence of ocean pollution becoming a major problem is all too
clear.
There are many different ways the ocean can become polluted....show more content...
Fishnets improperly discarded into the ocean can also cause major issues, tangling into unsuspecting
mammals and fish. According to the Marin Academy's Oceanography website, there are over
46,000 pieces of plastic floating in each square mile of ocean off the Northeast coast of the United
States, which contributes to the death of 100,000 marine mammals and two millions sea birds yearly.
A way you wouldn't expect pollution to be caused is by noise. The pressure from the sounds omitted
by ships, sonar devices, oil rigs, and earthquakes can disrupt communication, hunting, migration, and
reproduction patterns from many marine animals like whales and dolphins. This can throw the
whole system off balance. Air pollution can also cause ocean pollution by being absorbed into the
water and contaminating it, and vice versa. Ocean pollution can eventually cause air pollution. Dirt
can also spill into waterways from top soil or silt from fields or construction sites, causing
endangerment to fish and wildlife habitats.
Out of all of these ways, oil spills can cause a noticeably excessive amount of damage to the ocean.
Although only 12% of the oil entering the sea is caused by spills, they can deteriorate ocean life and
environment more than any other pollution. One gallon of used oil spilled into the ocean, which
contains toxic chemicals and heavy metals severely dangerous to the micro–organism at the base of
the food chain, can cause an eight–acre layer

major role in my life would definitely be sports. It is almost as if I look up to sports because I could
not live without them. Sports pretty much define me as me. I love to play sports as well as watch
all kinds of sports on T.V. and if I could ever go to a game and watch the players play live I would be
thrilled. Basically sports define me because I am ambitious, I finish what I start, I set goals for

hard work just for this one little moment when the game was on the line. Back to reality our
quarterback had started the play and it looked like it was going nowhere and we might have to got

the lead 8–6 with 52 seconds to go. When the game clock hit 00:00 for the first time in our schools

moment. Now, it was in this moment when I had realized that sports define me as me because we
never gave up, none of us wanted to lose, we set a goal and completed it, but most important we
kept our eye on the prize and came through in the moment when the game was on the line. Nobody

but I guarantee what people will remember is when we had beaten Aberdeen for the first time in

Essay about Renting Versus Buying
Buying a home can be an exciting experience for anyone. However, in some cases you just might
be better off continuing to rent your home. There are many advantages to buying a home. However,
it is not for everyone and buying varies from individual to individual. Currently more people are
leaning towards renting but this could change in the near future.
When someone makes the decision to buy or rent a home they must consider the advantages and
disadvantages of each. In buying a home the primary advantage is that you actually own it. You
can do whatever you want with it. Also, you are building equity as the years go by. "People today

You might be better off paying a reasonable amount for rent and saving your money when buying
seems more logical. Also, it depends on lifestyle preferences. Some people may not want to do all
the work that comes along with owning a home. As of right now many people are leaning towards
renting. This is because the market is going down. Some don't want to commit to a mortgage if
when they go to sell they can't find any buyers.
It is likely that the renting trend will decline and buying will increase in the future but it is hard to
say when. However, "if rent keeps rising and prices keep falling, fearful buyers could slowly
become bargain hunters." (Business Week, 2014). I feel that people will eventually get tired of
spending there money on rent and will want to invest more in there future. I don't think that the real
estate market will ever be a boom again. I believe that people have learned that just because
interest rates are low doesn't mean they can financially take on a mortgage. Overall, buying a
house is a big decision and should be looked at carefully. You should look at the advantages and
disadvantages of each and decide what is best for you in your life. There is no way to pin point if
buying or renting is best for anyone. Currently many prefer to rent their homes. However, as rent
rise, a majority may soon change their minds.

Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your
mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The
truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in
the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can
explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses.
Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before
taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and
unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I
struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to
the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class
that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the
whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for
navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I
have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in
English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the

My Personal Values Essay
My personal values Values are those things that are important, meaningful and valued by an
individual, a group of people, or an organization. Whether we are aware of them or not, every
individual has his or her core set of values, which consist of many different kinds of values. Each
individual's value system is different from one another because individual's values are built up
through one's life experience, environment, and family background. Values are important to us
because they reflect our personal moral standards, shape our behavior, and guide us through long
life journeys. Since we live in a highly connected society, each person's value system does not only

However, we should pay attention to our manners, utilize our communication skills; and on the
bottom line, we need to avoid intentionally hurting people. When coming across people who have
total different opinions from mine, I always act respectfully. For example, at school, we have to do
many team projects; most often, team members may come from total different cultural background,
and thus always have different opinions about the same thing. Being respectful to other students, I
am well–mannered, using appropriate language, opening to criticisms, and conducting myself
professionally. If everyone knows how to respect to others and act respectfully to each other, we will
easily to get along with each other and thus there be more happiness and less conflict in our society,
so we will make the world a better place. Second, I highly value integrity. Integrity is defined as "a
concept of consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes.
In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness or accuracy of one's actions." It
generally means not intentionally harming others, not stealing from, not cheating, or being fair to,
others. I value integrity because it manifests a person's inner strength, honor, kindness, and geniuses
of one's soul. According to Kantian moral perspective whether an action is morally good or not
depends primarily in the intentions of the agent performing the

The Holocaust was the murder and persecution of approximately 6 million Jews and many others

The Nazis thought that the "inferior" Jews were a threat to the "racially superior" German racial
community. The death camps were operated from 1941 to 1945, and many people lost their lives
or were forced to work in concentration camps during these years. The story leading up to the

While in prison, he wrote "Mein Kamf" (Which means "My Struggle"). "Mein Kamf" was a memoir

obscurity to power after taking advantage of the weaknesses of his enemies. On January 20 of
1933, he was named chancellor of Germany. When President Paul von Hindenburg died in 1934,
Adolf appointed himself as Germany's ruler. At first, the Nazis were only killing political
opponents like Communists and/or Social Democrats, for which their harshest persecution was
used. Many of the first prisoners sent to Dachau (The first official concentration camp opened
near Munich in March of 1933) were communists. By July, the concentration camps run by the
Germans held around 27,000 people in what they called "protective custody." The Nazis had huge
rallies and acts of symbolism such as burning of books by Jews. During the years of 1933 to 1939,
the hundreds of thousands of Jews who were able to leave Germany got out quickly, but many were
left behind, and they lived their lives in a constant state of uncertainty and fear. During the fall of
1939, Hitler started the so–called Euthanasia Program. The Euthanasia Program allowed Nazi
officials to select around 70,000 German citizens institutionalized for mental illnesses or disabilities.
These Germans were to be gassed to death. After prominent German

these I already knew, but you taught us them more in depth, and you gave me better understandings
of them. With writing an argumentative paper, it's important to have all the right facts, and make
sure you have reliable sources. If you don't have the right facts or reliable sources nobody will

MLA format is something I have always kind of needed help with. Until this semester for some
reason I could never really cite my sources that well. Its something I knew how to do, but when it
came time to do it my mind went blank. When you went over everything on the bored that helped
me so much (also because I took notes), but only because you told us to take them. With MLA

grammar significantly. Looking back through all of my graded essays it is unbelievable how
many commas I have actually missed. Also, writing the essays in MLA format and including
work cited entries and quotations, has helped me become more comfortable with it. When I write
essays now, I do not hesitate or get anxious if I have to add a work cited entry. However, even
though I have know a little bit more of when to use commas and have a little bit more knowledge
about grammar there is still a lot of room for improvement. Some areas where I need to improve
include transitions between paragraphs, being to repetitive, and my conclusions. This class has

have to make sure that the reader can comprehend my thought process and that my transitions do
not get in the way of the flow of the paper. In some of the rough drafts for my essays I could not
find links between paragraphs at all but after work shopping in class I believe that they have
significantly improved. I also need to make sure that I do not repeat the same ideas or words too

Challenges That I Face As Writer Essay
As a writer there are many elements of writing that I struggle with, especially when composing an
essay. When writing an essay, there are usually many skills that need to be used in order to be
successful with the writing assignment. Many times in writing I struggle with explaining and fully
developing the supporting details and ideas in my essay. I would also like to improve on
incorporating clear topic sentences and concluding sentences, connecting my paragraphs ideas back
to my thesis. Lastly, improvement can be made in my writing by avoiding awkward or wordy
sentences. Writers face numerous challenges in their writing but strive to overcome or improve these
challenges with each piece they write. Writers often face certain...show more content...
I am looking to improve on this challenge as a writer by focusing on explaining my quotes and
explanations in a more supportive way that relates back to the thesis. Writing can be improved
upon endlessly by minimizing your challenges as a writer. In writing an essay I also struggle with
incorporating clear topic sentences and connecting my paragraphs ideas back to my thesis
statement. This struggle is based on last years' experience with writing essays. This struggle can
be improved upon by concentrating on what exactly my thesis is stating and building my
sentences to relate and explain the thesis further. Improving on this will allow my writing ability
to increase and help me become a more successful writer. When composing an essay, or journal
entry, or just plain writing, I struggle as a writer with avoiding awkward or wordy phases in my
written work. This struggle is yet again based on last year's experience and feedback from my
English class. Improvement with this struggle can be made by the following strategies: reading over
my paper more carefully, avoiding the use of words that sound intelligent but don't flow with the
paper, and editing my paper with peers. Recognizing this struggle and following these strategies
would improve my writing. Writers develop strategies that help them to overcome or improve upon
their struggles and challenges in their writing. As a

This reflective essay is based on my skills and knowledge that have been gained whilst being in
education, at university. The idea of this essay is to highlight study skills I have expanded and
developed during the first semester of my program and the transferability of my learnt skills. With
help from my personal development plan I will be able to begin working independently, to help me
prepare for year two of my degree. I will be highlighting incidents throughout this semester where I
have acted more independently and also times when I could have been more autonomous. Whatever
stage I am at in my career, such as, searching for another occupation; arranging my best course of
action; searching for approaches to challenge and create...show more content...
I believe that this life change will help me get through university in a more confident, positive and
independent way, it will increase my knowledge and other individuals may feel like they can
come to myself for help. At university, I have been attending numerous lectures and seminars that
have helped me to be able to gain the knowledge and understanding of different applications and
resources to help improve my work so that it is at the best, that it can be. I believe that I have
developed a lot of reflection skills that has helped me to a bigger and honest picture of myself and
this has allowed me to see what I am capable of and what potential I have. I have developed a
bigger understanding of how I think and how I come across to others which also helps me to gain
a bigger judgment of what affects my personal performance. I believe that my PDP has helped me
gain these skills which has improved my attitude towards work enormously. Before I came to
study university I previously studied at college I studied at college, this was a massive help to be
able to get where I am today. It was a rough journey and I received a lot of feedback with about
60% of it needing improvement. The constructive criticism that I received helped me tremendously
as I take feedback really well as I think that it can help individuals

Crossing The Border Essay
Many people are unaware of the heartbreak that takes place on our border in the south. Between the
media and uneducated Americans, the immigration at the border needs to be addressed or our
country will be overrun with illegals according to the news and social media. The true
heart–breaking story cannot be told or our country would not stand for this inhuman behavior. There
are many reasons for crossing the border illegally. For instance, women could be fleeing for their
life, looking for freedom, wanting the chance to raise their family without the fear of abuse, or just
because someone told them their life would be better if they could just get into the United States.
Regardless the reason, everyone should at least be asked why they are willing to risk their life and
their families lives to live in the United States?
The Border Patrol may ask the immigrants about why they crossed the border illegally or they may
not ask. Truthfully, what do the Border Patrol do after they ask? Often, we believe, the job is being
taken care of regarding immigration and who could be cruel to women and children. However, these
border patrol agencies are groomed to hunt immigrants like animals and criminals. In the article,
"Looking Beyond the Wall," author Robert Neustadt depicts a conversation with a border control
agent, "I'm a junior agent, so I don't get to go out to play as much. That's what we call going out on
Patrol, explains Wilson" (Neustadt, 2013, p.623). Leaving their home to

  • 1. Grit Essay Examples Grit is a predictor of academic, professional, and personal success. Grit can be defined as strength of character or the ability to overcome failure and continue to work toward success. People with grit are not always the people with the most natural ability, but their work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles allows them to achieve success. Grit is a very valuable characteristic in almost any venture, as it gives someone an advantage in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they will face. However, grit is much easier adopted when an individual has a growth mindset. The first step to obtaining grit is to correlate both self–control and self–confidence when trying to reach an objective. By doing this, one can focus on the task at hand...show more content... I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year I promised myself to push through all the six mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times, lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just given up that first day of practice, I wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people that are now my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways than one. Still, if someone has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with a growth mindset believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, brains and talent are just the starting point. • 2. Essay On Black Lives Matter Black Lives Matter is an international activist movement that started within the African–American communities. This movement is organized by Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi. Ever since the black people have stepped on American soil, they have continued to be victims of racism and violence. From slavery to lynching to segregation, the black people have suffered alot in this country. In the past few years, there are so many of them that have been targeted by the law enforcement authorities across the country. This movement's goal is to raise awareness of racism and violence against African–Americans. They wants African–American to live with dignity and respect like other Americans do. On February 26, 2012, George...show more content... People continue to use this hashtag to convey their message. Social media has helped a lot of people be aware of this movement. As more people know about this movement, the use of this hashtag will continue to increase. This video shows how protesters block all lanes of I–94. The police officers gave them twenty five warning to leave. Yet, some people chose to stay and continue to protest. According to the police, the protest turned into a riot and some people threw rocks and bottles on the freeway. During this act of violence, twenty one police officers were injured. In order to cease those protestors, the police officer used non–irritant smoke and sprayed mace. At the end of the protest, 50 people were arrested for three degree rioting. There is usually a protest after an unarmed black person is killed by a police officer. By protesting, they try to seek attention to shooting of black people by disrupting commerce and preventing people from commuting to one place to another. After Alton Sterling and Philando Cartile were shot by a police officer, the Black Lives Matter marched on the streets and blocked highways in July 2016 in Minnesota. In December 2015, they even disrupt local business on a busy holiday shopping with peaceful protest. Despite getting warnings, the Black Lives Matter organization gathered in a Minnesota Mall. They compelled some of the stores to be closed for hours. They said there will not be any business until they get Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Minecraft Essay Minecraft is a game where the player uses their imagination to shape the world around them using the resources they find. In the world everything is shaped like a block or a cube, this includes the trees, the dirt, the water, the clouds, even the sun, everything. This simple game hasn't even been released yet but has already sold over one million copies. Minecraft was created by one man, Markus "Notch" Persson, and this is his story. What makes the story of Minecraft so unique is that it was created by Notch and only Notch. Notch had a job before Minecraft, working on games for a company. He started to work on Minecraft in his free time but after a giant popularity spike he realized that it could be a hit, so he quit his job and began...show more content... The game sells around 10,000 copies per day. It has become a cultural phenomenon and on January 12, 2011 sales passed the one million mark, but they continued to rise. With popularity increasing, big name comics like "Penny Arcade" and "Hejibits" discovered the game too and published comic strips about minecraft, leading to even further sales. Minecraft makes $250,000 a day and continues to do so. On June 13, 2011, Minecraft passed 2.5 million sales. Today Mojang has 10 employees. Markus Persson, Jens Bergensten, Daniel Kaplan, Junkboy, Jakob Porser, Carl Manneh, Tobias Mollstam, Aron Neiminen, Daniel Frisk, and Daniel Rosenfeld. These few people make up the team that continues to work towards Minecraft's future. But with so few employees things take time. Even though the game has not been officially released, people who buy the game get a copy of what it is right now as the updates are being pushed out. With such success Mojang is the target of some heavy criticism from blogs, critics, and even their own fans. One speculation from fans is that Minecraft will be the company's 1 hit wonder. What happens if it truly is a one hit wonder? Will the company go down under? Will it be the end of Mojang? Will they join a publisher in order to stay afloat and lose their title of "indie?" Another speculation concerns Mojang's next game that has absolutely nothing to do with Minecraft, not even in the same genre. What if nobody likes the game? What Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Mandatory uniform policy's measures and emphasize the benefits of students on specific behavioral and academic outcomes. The arguments for the issue are just as strong as those against the issue. There are two main points surrounding school uniforms: performance and school and reduction of violence due to uniformity. Uniforms are argued to positively affect student safety by: lowering student victimization, decreasing gang activity and fights and differentiating strangers from students in school building. A dress code will allow students to make friends on their personal qualities, rather than appearance. Too often students classify other students but the way they dress. Many students avoid some of their classmates because of the way they dress, rather than trying to be friends with them (Brunsma 5–6). Students would make friends with people that have the same common interests with themselves, rather than people that dress like them. The anonymous author of Rules of Fashion says that the dress code is one thing that has served to lower crime, violence, and increase attendance and increase learning at a lot of schools. And a dress code itself and important statement because we want our young children, whether rich, poor, or middle class, when they're in school to define themselves primarily in terms of what's going on inside, not what they're wearing not he outside (Anonymous 2). As with any issue, there are people who are on both sides of this issue. The argument for school uniforms says that uniforms decrease violence in the schools. People who argue this side of the issue state that when the students wear school uniforms, that the number of infractions on the rules is decreased. The argument against the issue says that there are other programs that the schools can undertake that produce the same effects with out the school uniforms. Hair loss is a major cause for concern among African American women and much of the issues related to hair loss is unique to the community of black women. While there are medical conditions that can result in hair loss and baldness be it permanent or otherwise, the leading causes of hair loss among African American women are related to hair care practices and styling techniques prevalent in the African American community. Women of other races may speak of messy buns and bed head but not African American women. We believe our styles need to be sleek and neat or tight and right. I believe that if I had a daughter so young that wanted to make such a big difference in her country I would stand by her one–hundred percent and push her to set out her dreams. That is exactly what her parents did, they always encouraged her to do whatever she put her mind to even now in present day. Malala wanted to make a difference in how unequal woman's rights were, and she would go to all costs to make it happen in her country. Her father said since she was a baby that this child is special, and she was. If my child wanted to take a stand at eleven for woman's rights I would be shocked to say the least. I would've brushed it to the side and forgot about it. Malala had a very strong support base because I would not have let my child of eleven protest which she could have gotten killed for. Malala was brave, she even said she was not afraid to die. Most would have been more comfortable if she was "older" and "wiser". Which I think is a common misconception on young people. More seasoned people think that just because a child is young they cannot have a big voice or have an opinion on society because they have not experienced as many years on earth as them. Malala broke the mold and she protested what she felt was right, even though she ended up getting shot in the face for it. Was it worth it? I think it was worth it. In conclusion I support the fact that Malala's parents allowed her to fight for woman's rights, and to stand up for what she believed in. Malala's shooting affected people across the world and she was even nominated for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Essay about Night by Elie Wiesel Night is a novel written from the perspective of a Jewish teenager, about his experiences as a prisoner during the Holocaust. Our teenager named Eliezer grew up in the small community of Sighet, located in Hungarian Transylvania. It's here that Eliezer studies religion, both the Cabbala and the Torah. At the beginning of the war Eliezer was dedicated and absolute in his belief of God, but throughout the events of World War II his faith slowly starts to wither away. Eliezer's main conflict that governs the story would be sustaining his belief in God. This becomes especially hard throughout the book, as he has to face more and more challenging issues. Moshe the Beadle is the one character that Eliezer learned about his faith from, Moshes...show more content... It's in these moments that Eliezer has lost all faith he had in humanity and religion, which he had previously learned from Moshe. One point in the story that Eliezer questions his faith in God is when they are forced to watch the hanging of other prisoners, one time the Gestapo even hangs and kills a small child for being associated with the rebels. It seems that during this point the prisoners start to react for means of survival only, family members were turning on each other. The prisoners turn cold hearted and cruel towards each other because now their only concern is survival. Because of the horrific events in the concentration camp and the ever–present risk of death does Eliezer begin to lose his faith in humanity and his God. Eliezer has a tough time understanding how the world and the Gestapo can be capable of this much fury. Because his teachings tell him that God is good, and since God is everywhere the world therefore must be good. Another strong theme from the book is the importance of family bonds, especially if that's all you have left in harsh conditions. Eliezer has a hard time watching the other families interact because they no longer share a special bond of love but instead share the idea of selfishness. More than once Eliezer experiences the rupture of the bond a family shares between both the father and son. He describes his bond with his father as a support system; they both ensure the other has enough to survive Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Still, there is a crucial challenge when creating health insurance plans, provide coverage for "health care needs without encouraging unnecessary spending." • 10. Ocean Pollution Essay Everything in this world we use comes from the ocean in some way. The air we breathe, the water we drink, even the products we use day to day, would not be possible without the ocean. That's why the issue of ocean pollution is so important and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. We depend on the ocean for so much in our life, without it we would surely become extinct. People seem to think that since the ocean is so large and vast, we can dump as much waste as we'd like into it and it will never have an effect on us. However, since we've been polluting the ocean as far back as Roman times, the evidence of ocean pollution becoming a major problem is all too clear. There are many different ways the ocean can become polluted....show more content... Fishnets improperly discarded into the ocean can also cause major issues, tangling into unsuspecting mammals and fish. According to the Marin Academy's Oceanography website, there are over 46,000 pieces of plastic floating in each square mile of ocean off the Northeast coast of the United States, which contributes to the death of 100,000 marine mammals and two millions sea birds yearly. A way you wouldn't expect pollution to be caused is by noise. The pressure from the sounds omitted by ships, sonar devices, oil rigs, and earthquakes can disrupt communication, hunting, migration, and reproduction patterns from many marine animals like whales and dolphins. This can throw the whole system off balance. Air pollution can also cause ocean pollution by being absorbed into the water and contaminating it, and vice versa. Ocean pollution can eventually cause air pollution. Dirt can also spill into waterways from top soil or silt from fields or construction sites, causing endangerment to fish and wildlife habitats. Out of all of these ways, oil spills can cause a noticeably excessive amount of damage to the ocean. Although only 12% of the oil entering the sea is caused by spills, they can deteriorate ocean life and environment more than any other pollution. One gallon of used oil spilled into the ocean, which contains toxic chemicals and heavy metals severely dangerous to the micro–organism at the base of the food chain, can cause an eight–acre layer Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Basically sports define me because I am ambitious, I finish what I start, I set goals for myself, and I am a fierce competitor in which I love to win and I hate to lose. I thought about all the hard work the coaches put us through doing two a days and keeping us late after a hard practice, spending all of that time and hard work just for this one little moment when the game was on the line. Back to reality our quarterback had started the play and it looked like it was going nowhere and we might have to got into overtime. Then after about 6 crazy seconds he threw the ball to our halfback and he broke a couple tackles and the somehow stretched across the goal line by about 2 inches and we had taken the lead 8–6 with 52 seconds to go. When the game clock hit 00:00 for the first time in our schools history the football team had beaten Aberdeen and none of us could believe it. This was a special moment. Now, it was in this moment when I had realized that sports define me as me because we never gave up, none of us wanted to lose, we set a goal and completed it, but most important we kept our eye on the prize and came through in the moment when the game was on the line. Also, it depends on lifestyle preferences. Some people may not want to do all the work that comes along with owning a home. As of right now many people are leaning towards renting. This is because the market is going down. Some don't want to commit to a mortgage if when they go to sell they can't find any buyers. It is likely that the renting trend will decline and buying will increase in the future but it is hard to say when. However, "if rent keeps rising and prices keep falling, fearful buyers could slowly become bargain hunters." (Business Week, 2014). I feel that people will eventually get tired of spending there money on rent and will want to invest more in there future. I don't think that the real estate market will ever be a boom again. I believe that people have learned that just because interest rates are low doesn't mean they can financially take on a mortgage. Overall, buying a house is a big decision and should be looked at carefully. You should look at the advantages and disadvantages of each and decide what is best for you in your life. There is no way to pin point if buying or renting is best for anyone. Currently many prefer to rent their homes. However, as rent rise, a majority may soon change their minds. However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it.
