greater society. These issues can range from economic to ideological and can be deeply personal
to whichever group is being affected. However, there is a complexity to many social issues that
require cooperation across the groups that can potentially exacerbate the issue. Without that
cooperation, the serious issues cannot be solved either, therefore, even if solving social issues is

To be absolutely clear, it is not the fault of the people who end up in an unfortunate situation
(except for very specific cases), but poverty reconditions their perceptions of normality. Another
way of stating it is that the condition of poverty works its way into every aspect of an individual's
life when they are struggling at the bottom of the socioeconomic spectrum. Poverty is the cause of
these issues since they are minimized or non–existent the further one gets away from it and the
constant pressure subsides. These economic pressures and the immediacy of poverty increase the
difficulty in creating wealth forming behaviors as people in poverty lack access to institutions which
can aid in that endeavor. Due to this, the cycle of poverty continues and is enhanced with every trip
around. For a broader view, the existence of entire swaths of a city or region that is exclusively
inhabited by the poor cannot be simply explained away by poor financial decisions. In urban areas,
these poverty–stricken districts are often the legacy of redlining and systematic oppression that was
actively practiced until about 50 years ago. This legacy shapes perceptions of these districts as
hopeless lost causes or lucrative business opportunities for gentrification, both attitudes ignoring the

A social problem is normally a term used to describe problems with a particular area or group of
people in the world. Social problems often involve problems that affect real life. It also affects how
people react to certain situations. While differences in racial/ethnic prejudices have been explored
extensively in past literature (e.g. Bobo and Zubrinksy's 1996, study of differential prejudices
directed toward Hispanic and Black individuals), little U.S. research has investigated how attitudes
toward lesbians, gays, bisexual men, bisexual women, and male–to–female (MtF) and
female–to–male (FtM) transgender (henceforth "LGBT") may differ ( Marcus, 2015).
Social justice that is face among the LGBT is discrimination. Variations in family structures include
single–parent families, step families, blended families, and intergenerational families. Lesbian, gay,
and bisexual families experience a special risk of discrimination.A major problem gay people face is
homophobia–an extreme and irrational fear of lesbian and gay people simply because they are
lesbian and gay. LGB people are one of the primary groups at risk of discrimination and oppression

It also makes up for some of the states that can't plant crops or do as much farming due to their
environment and/or landscape. Another positive is if there is a loss of crops in other parts of the
United States, Iowa could carry the weight of those lost crops but it can also be a negative because if
Iowa is one of those states that is experiencing the loss of crops then that is a big portion of the
corn and soybeans being planted for that year. Another negative would be only being able to farm
for a certain part of the year because you only plant two crops which could lead to less jobs and a

In chapter 11 of Bell, I read about supplying water in a costa rican village. There was a small
village in Costa Rica that had just put in a new water supply dam. The dam was based on a small
stream that went up into the mountains above the village and it was able to supply all of the

The United States has made leaps and bounds in its education system since schooling became
mandatory. Most people in the US have at least a high school education and are able to function in
society as fruitful and productive citizens. However, in the past years the family and education
structure have changed, creating new social issues for society to address and find solutions for. The
following examines the shortage of teachers in schools, increasing school violence, and the bilingual
challenges our education system faces today. One of the challenges the United States faces in modern
education is the lack of teachers to fill the classrooms. This creates difficulty as many teachers are
forced to teach large classes and the teacher to student ratio is largely disproportionate. The
interaction students have with teachers not only helps develop the student academically, but also
teaches them social skills that are useful for peer interaction. A study done by Howes 1999; Pianta,
Nimetz Bennett ; 1997 "Suggests that when children have warm and supportive teacher– child
relationships they are able to use their teachers as resources for their other social relationships,

Imagine having to work seven days a week, putting in more than forty hours, only to come back to
an unstable living situation and still have barely enough to get by. For many people, they remain in
this cycle of poverty for the rest of their lives. There is no light at the end of their tunnel, but instead
more obstacles that they must overcome. Poverty, like other social divisions, is something that
continues to plague society, and while it is most likely impossible to completely eradicate it,
certain actions on the part of people who are not in poverty can be done in order to elevate those
who within that state of poverty, and therefore improve the overall happiness. Poverty, as a social
issue, needs to be embraced and accepted in order for its debilitating effects to be minimized,
therefore improving the quality of life for all people.

In this essay, I interview subject (x) based on topics of political issues of (a) role of government,
(b) economic, (c) social, (d) military and (e) environment. I interview and analyzed responses to
determine what extent does my interviewee conform to ideological categories of left or right. The
interviewee is a white male 65 year's old, retiree and resides in Bayside, Wisconsin. The
interviewee has a bachelor's degree, divorced, once a brewery worker, has one son and is currently
disabled. The questioned presented first a general and broad. I then relayed a relevant current event
question that tied in with the overall subject. This approach I discovered became useful in
determining what ideology the subject sided with.
In regards to the role of government the interviewee tended to be one sided revealing leftist or the
Democratic ideology. I asked, "Do you support a large government or a small government?" The
subject responded that the "government needs to be larger and more involved in regulation to end
corruption." In this question the subject's response sides with the left, "which believes in expanded
government, and the right believes in limited government" (Hey). This concept of regulation

Social policy refers to the policies used by government for welfare and social protection (Spicker,
P.) that are usually made by central Government and implemented by local authorities to tackle
current social issues such as poverty and racism. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have now
devolved and have their own laws and legislations on several issues.
This essay will explore three contemporary issues in relation to social policy, whilst supporting these
issues with legislation and economic context for each issue.
The three issues that will be explored are: Welfare, Health and Pensions. Defining social policy, and
understanding social policy becomes imperative, to enable understanding of the contemporary issues
within it.
Social policy was introduced in the early 19th Century, post war. At this time,William Beveridge
introduced the idea of a Welfare State to address poverty. He released a report for social reform
known as the 'five giants' within society: squalor, disease, ignorance, idleness and want. The
welfare state brought many positive improvements in Britain and Government passed reforms to
address the poverty levels, introducing "cradle to grave "support. The National Health Service
was set up which gave free health care to all and laws and Acts were put in place to help the
young, the old, the sick the unemployed and the working class in times of need. The five issues
