Interesting codes found in ICD-10 and a quick way to code using ICD 9 as a basis. Codes presented are real but presented to simply relax health professionals as they tackle this subject.
2. Apologies
ICD 10 is a serious matter; yet, we all deserve
some time to relax, so while our team didn’t
create the pictures you are about to see we
believe that there is an instructional value in
these.
24. Good News
• Don’t Panic and follow these steps as you go into ICD
10:
– Type the ICD-9 code you’d normally use into a conversion
tool to get an ICD-10 code to use as a starting point.
– Review the Tabular List to determine if there are codes
with greater levels of specificity available.
• Please pay attention to chapter and category headings for
additional coding instructions.
– If you can, code for the actual condition (e.g., patellar
tendinitis) instead of the result (e.g., knee pain).
Note: at this point in time CMS has indicated that we do not
have to use external cause code, chapter 20, so relax.
