1. Read the following email from a German student.
Hello from Germany!
My name is Mirjam Gurth and I am a 17-year-old German student who will take part
in the School Exchange Programme with your school this year. I am very excited
and looking forward to meeting you all!!
I live only with my mother and my brother because my parents don't live together.
They got divorced when I was only 4 years old. I usually get on very well with my
brother Sven and we do many things together like watching our favourite TV shows,
going to the forest for a walk with our dog “Lucky” and so on. However, sometimes
my mother gets on my nerves because she is very strict and does not let me do
things all my friends do. What about your family?
I study at Gymnasium Gerabronn. NO, it is not a gym :-) In Germany some
secondary schools are called “Gymnasium”. My school is not very large, maybe 300
students and about 40 teachers but we have great facilities like an indoor
swimming-pool, language laboratories, a canteen, a forum outdoors for spring days,
a kitchen for the students, etc. My favourite subjects are History and Technology. I
find Chemistry and Biology quite difficult for me but I always do my best to get the
best marks. I am very hardworking and spend a long time everyday doing
homework and studying for tests. How about your school?
I have a lot of hobbies but my favourite one is music. Since I was 5-year-old I have
been playing the piano. I practice everyday for an hour and a half and sometimes I
play in school concerts or in my town (Rot am See) for special occasions. I love all
types of music and when I was younger I took ballet lessons. Of course, I also love
social networks. I have Instagram and Twitter accounts but I am not really into them
24/7. I love spending time outdoors in nature. For this reason, camping is the best
way to travel for me because I go places and I am surrounded by nature. What do
you do in your free time?
Well, I think this is pretty much about me. I hope you didn't get really bored reading
my stuff. I can't wait to know more about you.
