2. Process
Firstly I chose the background that was suitable for my product. After I
changed the brightness and the hue off the background. I did this just to
experiment what it would look like. Even though I don’t really like it, it
was really useful see what it would look like. I don’t really like it as the
pink is not really authentic. However it does go really well with the yellow
masthead and sub headings as they are both bright colours. I then cut out
half of the background to see what it would look like with only the sky
having the a hue. I only cut out half so I could see them both as
comparison. After that I cut out the skater and removed the hue from
him and placed him above the masthead. I did this because it looks like
the masthead is actually I the picture. I then changed the shape of the
masthead into a surfboard shape as they are associated with one and
another. I put a price tag in the picture so the customers know how much
the magazine is. I placed it behind the masthead a tiny bit as I didn’t want
to put it at the bottom because it would take up too much room. After I
added the barcode at the bottom left of the page as I also didn’t want to
take up too much rooms where stories would go a lot better. After that I
placed a photo of a professional skater and added 4 corner edges to make
it feel more like a stamp book feel to it. After I added subheadings saying
’learn to skate with Luan Oliveira’. I made the ‘Luan Oliveira’ part a lot
bigger that the other because he is famous and if someone sees his name
they might go and have a read. Also I but it on a slight slant as it fits in
with the ‘funky’ style that I went for. I put a photo of the skater because
the customers might recognize his face but not his name. After that I
added a promotion. I firstly got a picture from the internet of some hard
ware for a skateboard. I then cut it out, using the magic wand, so there is
no white background that makes it look unrealistic. Then I made a new
sub heading saying that if you buy you get free hardware. This was for the
sole purpose of promoting might product. Finally I put a stroke on all of
the writing, using the blending options, to make it feel more realistic.
3. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?
– I am going to include the masthead where the skater is in front of it. This brings more of an
authentic/realistic feel to it, it allows more room for other things in my magazine and it looks better because
you can see what the skater is doing. It is also a typical convention of a skate magazine.
– I will also use sub-images and titles to exaggerate a story much more. This also makes the magazine look a
lot more professional. The sub-headings are are also a typical convention of a magazine and they have used
it in my research.
– I will also use strokes over my headings if it is suitable for the font. I will only do this to make the main sub-
headings stand out a lot more.
– I am also going to be using the price tag to show how much it is. This is because I customers want the most
information as possible on the front when it comes to price/promotions. My magazine will cost £4.99
because the ”99p“ part makes the customers want o buy it more as it looks like it is a lower price when it is
only £1.00 off.
– Also I will try to keep a similar style colours, fonts and layout. This is to meet the needs of my target
audience. My target gender is male and I will try and use some masculine colours like green, blue, black and
grey. These colours appeal more to the male gender rather than the female gender. I will also be using a few
feminine colours such a yellow, red, and purple. This is to attract my secondary audience as some females
are interested in skating, just not as many as males.
• not doing...
– I am not going to be using a hue in the sky as it looks unrealistic. I am trying to do a realistic
looking magazine because from my research skaters like realistic products. so a pink sky would
not work as the sky is not pink in real life. Having a realistic magazine is also typical convention
o a skateboarding magazine.
4. Process
Firstly I chose the template (a white shirt).
I then placed it onto Photoshop. After I
then used the type tool to add text. I
changed the font of the text and then used
the warp tool to wrap the text around the
collar of the shirt. I then added more text
and used the warp tool again, using the
twist option to make it have a cool looking
style to it. I then changed the colour of
each half of the chest text to yellow and
purple. Next I added two more texts and
put them on each arm. Then I changed the
colours to the opposite of the chest text by
using the pipette tool. Finally I exported it
as a PNG.
5. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your
final product?
– I will include the idea of making a t shirt rather than any other
type of merchandise as it is the most popular type of
merchandise.
– I will include the idea of having my logo on the front. This is so
people can build up the brands recognition through
merchandise.
Not doing…
– I am not going to be doing arm patterns as I think it is too much.
The logo would be all over the merchandise and I think that
would be too much.
– I am not going to be doing collar patterns as I also think it looks
too much. I think that only one recognisable logo in enough for
a t shirt design.
6. Process
Firstly I placed two side advertisements so
I could see the space that was left. Then I
used the text tool to make a title. I then
changed the font of the title and used free
transform to make it a suitable size. After I
used the line tool and added two lines to
mark out where my navigation bar is. I
then used the text tool and added three
different section names. I then changed
the font off them all and made sure they
where all the same size. After I placed a
image of a skater and used the selection
tool to cut out parts of the image. After I
then added more text and then changed
the font. Next I placed four different
images next to each other and made for
that they were in line. Finally I exported
the final image as a JPEG.
7. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?
– I will be placing the title on the top of the web page so the customers will know what
website they are on. This also increases my brands recognition. Also the first thing they
will see on the web page is the logo and over time they should get used to the logo.
– I will have a navigation bar so the customers can easily navigate through the web page. I
will do this because the easier it is to find a product, place it in the basket and purchase
the product. More products will get sold as it is not a hassle to find a product and check
out.
– I will have a main photo, but I will try to adapt it a bit more. I will put my logo on it so it
looks more like something that you can click on to get to another page. I also want
people to see my main photo when they first go on to the page so they can see my
promotions.
– I will still have the products section as I want my products to be one of the first things
that people see on the webpage so that when they are exposed to my product they will
like is and buy it.
• Not doing…
I will not have the side advertisements as it will make my website look more unprofessional.
Also no- body likes ads so the users of the web page might get annoyed at the ads. The web
page would also look a lot more slick if I do not put in advertisements in.
