Pixar films tend to also appeal to older
               audiences than many other animated
               films.

               Because of this Pixar and Disney set out
               to target people in their twenties when
               promoting Toy Story 3 (who would have
               seen the original Toy Story when they
               were younger).

               videos posted onto YouTube.

Lesson Objectives: To be able to explain how Disney
market their films using specific examples.
"Toy Story 3" is about Andy going off to college (and thus, the
                  future of his toys), so to promote the film, Disney and Pixar
                  are taking "Toy Story 3" to college!

                  In April, Disney will be visiting college campuses across the
                  country and showing off the first 65 minutes of the film.
                  Known as the "Special Cliffhanger Edition," the idea is to get
                  college kids reunited with the franchise and excited to see
                  how the film turns out when it hits theaters on June 18th,
                  2010.

                  You can sign up for an event at your campus by visiting
                  the Disney/Pixar Facebook Page. Tickets and seats are still first
                  come, first serve, so just because you RSVP doesn't mean
                  you're guaranteed a spot -- get to your school's theater early!

Research the marketing of one or two recent Disney
                    films. You could find out more about the marketing
                    of Toy Story 3, Tron Legacy, or Alice in Wonderland.
                    Or you could find about another recent Disney
                    release such as Wreck-It Ralph, Brave, The Avengers,
                    The Muppets, Frankenweenie, or any other Disney
                    film.

                    Find out about:
                    • use of social media
                    • opportunities for synergy
                    • promotional strategies
                    • media advertising

                    Be ready to feedback your ideas to the class.

  • 3. Website www.flynnlives.com based on the main character of the Tron films set up. Events were organised around the world to raise awareness of the film http://www.flynnlives.com/event.htm. Video clips and other promotions were also posted onto the website. Lesson Objectives: To be able to explain how Disney market their films using specific examples.
  • 4. Pixar films tend to also appeal to older audiences than many other animated films. Because of this Pixar and Disney set out to target people in their twenties when promoting Toy Story 3 (who would have seen the original Toy Story when they were younger).   • 5. Toy Story 3 was also promoted using videos posted onto YouTube. Watch the following video and think about what audience is being targeted.   • 6. "Toy Story 3" is about Andy going off to college (and thus, the future of his toys), so to promote the film, Disney and Pixar are taking "Toy Story 3" to college! In April, Disney will be visiting college campuses across the country and showing off the first 65 minutes of the film. Known as the "Special Cliffhanger Edition," the idea is to get college kids reunited with the franchise and excited to see how the film turns out when it hits theaters on June 18th, 2010. Tickets and seats are still first come, first serve, so just because you RSVP doesn't mean you're guaranteed a spot -- get to your school's theater early!
