Unions have an important role to play in advocating for and supporting apprentices in the workplace. They can negotiate for more apprenticeship opportunities, ensure apprentices' terms and conditions are followed, and help with issues regarding health and safety, disciplinary processes, and accessing legal support. Unions also provide learning representatives who can liaise with training departments, help apprentices with skills development, identify career progression routes, and offer impartial advice and guidance. Coaching and mentoring from unions can help apprentices build communication skills and be supported by understanding their needs as young workers.
