Young Life was
founded in 1941 by
Jim Rayburn, a
church youth
leader and recent
seminary
graduate.

could help and readily agreed to a
letter of endorsement for assembly
speeches at local high schools.

Broadway leaders pick up students on
the West Virginia line for club, over 1 HR
and 10 min from campus.

During the 1938-39
school year, Jim
Rayburn started an
after-school meeting
called “The Miracle
Book Club.”
Attendance grew
steadily.

In 1940, the Club moved from
the afternoon to the evening and
from the high school to kids’
homes.
History

The week before finals, there
were 170 kids at the Miracle
Book Club.

  • 8. History Young Life was founded in 1941 by Jim Rayburn, a church youth leader and recent seminary graduate.
  • 9. History He began a weekly club for kids where there was singing, skits and a simple message about Jesus.

  • 44. History During the 1938-39 school year, Jim Rayburn started an after-school meeting called “The Miracle Book Club.” Attendance grew steadily.
  • 45. History In 1940, the Club moved from the afternoon to the evening and from the high school to kids’ homes.
  • 46. History The week before finals, there were 170 kids at the Miracle Book Club.

  • 69. History As Young Life began to have success in reaching disinterested kids, the staff saw the obvious need for a follow up program.
  • 70. History About this time, Jim Rayburn became good friends with Dawson Trotman the founder of The Navigators.
  • 71. History For many years, Campaigners were given Navigator materials as part of their discipleship.
