2. Procedure:
In order to find out more about my audience I put together a questionnaire
so that I can obtain some quantitative date about what my demographic want
and expect from a magazine.
I did this by placing a questionnaire on QuestionPro and posting the link to it
on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. I done this in order
to get the highest rate of respondents possible, so that my results were
accurate.
I then analysed the data and put graphs together in order to visually present
it within this PowerPoint. I then explored what this data would mean for my
magazine.
3. The results to my first
question have showed
that most (84%) of the
respondents were
females. This will be
the demographic which
I will be focusing on,
and aiming my
magazine at. I will need
to consider what is the
appropriate mode of
address for the female
demographic, in order
to attract them.
4. My second graph has
revealed that most of
the respondents were
between the age of 16-
24. This will be the age
range which I will be
focusing on, and
targeting the magazine
at. Through narrowing
the age range of my
readers, I will be able to
have a more suited and
appropriate mode of
address.
5. Nearly 81% of my
respondents are in full-
time education. This
means they are
aspiring to be in a
profession when they
are older, and
therefore my magazine
should reflect and
encourage this. This
also means that most
of my readers are
aspiring to be middle
class.
6. The respondents have
said the magazines they
mostly read are
celebrity(35% ),
music(19%) and fashion
magazines(18%) . As my
demographic are
known for not reading
single topic magazines,
I will include elements
of celebrity
gossip/news and
fashion. This will
encourage my chosen
demographic to buy the
music magazine.
7. This graph tells me what
genre my magazine should
be focusing on. The three
most popular types of
music have came out to be
R&B, Hip-hop and Pop. I
have chosen to for my
chosen genre to be a mix of
R&B and pop, these are
both seen as the
mainstream type of music
with a large fan base, this
would mean my magazine
would already have a loyal
and established fan base.
However, I have chosen not
to focus my magazine
genre on hip-hop as it is
traditionally seen as a male
genre of music.
8. 32% of my respondents
have said they look up to a
celebrity, 29% said they
look up to a family
member and 23% have
said that they do not have
a role model. The mix of
responses reflects my
demographics age, as they
are still growing up and
are still in the process of
getting to know
themselves. However, due
to the high percentage of
celebrity role models I will
have a range of these
within my magazine, in
order to attract my
demography.
9. Following up from my
previous question, I
wanted to find out
which female my
respondents most look
up to. The results have
shown that 36% of the
respondents answered
‘Beyonce’. As Beyonce is
very independent and
hardworking, this gives
me an idea of how I
should be portraying the
artists within my
magazine. Especially the
artist on my front cover,
as this will be appealing
to my demographic.
10. My final question
helped me to establish
the price range of my
magazine . 54% of my
respondents have said
they are willing to spend
£2 - £3 on a magazine.
This will help me to
figure out how much I
would need to spend on
the production of the
magazine, in order to
still make a good
enough profit.
