RE: NPCC Inter-Unit Mini Campcraft Competition 2009
on 23rd May 2009 (Sat)
Greenview Secondary NPCC Unit will be holding an Inter-Unit Mini Campcraft
Competition on Saturday, 23rd May 2009. We would like to invite your unit to
participate in this event. Your support is greatly appreciated.
The aim of this event is to increase interaction among cadets from various units,
as well as to bring out the competitive sprit and teamwork among cadets.
Furthermore, it is a great post-exam activity for your cadets.
Please form a team of 6 cadets (5 main + 1 reserve). Do note that each unit can
only send in ONE team.
The following are the competition details:
Venue: Loyang Secondary School

Time: 8:30 am to 12.30 pm
Fees: $10 per unit
Attire: P.T. Attire (School based tee-shirt/NPCC based tee-shirt and track
pants ONLY)
Prizes: Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams.
Certificates will be given to each participating unit.

Friday, 15th May 2009. Only the first 12 teams that reply would be accepted.
OC Units and team captain of successful units will be notified by email.

NPCC Inter Unit Mini Campcraft 2009
Rules and Regulations
1. Participation
• The competition is open to cadets born in the year of 1994 onwards
and only 2 Sec 3 cadets are allowed.
• Each team shall comprise of 6 cadets (including 1 substitute) with at
least 2 from each gender
• Every unit can submit only 1 team. The registration fee is $10. Official
receipts and light refreshments will be given to all teams on that day.
• All competitors must produce EZ-link/Concession card as proof of
identification.
• Teams must be accompanied by a Teacher-Officer (TO), Honorary
Officer (HO) or Cadet Inspector (CI).
• All competitors must wear NPCC Unit T-Shirt/Polo-T, shorts and
appropriate shoes as accepted by individual school.
• Teams must report to the NCOs stationed outside General Office
between 8:00 am and 8:20 am to have their attendance recorded.
• Competitors are not allowed to go to other parts of the school except
to the toilets and the canteen.
2. Mode(s) of Competition
• There are 3 stages to the competition:
Stage 1.8 Basic Knot (Theory) 30m
Stage 2.5 Basic Lashings (practical) 30m
Stage 3.Mini Pioneering (practical) 40m
• To decide the overall winner, marks will be given and added from each
stage. The team with the most overall marks will be the winner.

3. 1st Stage (8 Basic Knots)
In this stage, we will conduct a test with 20 questions given. Section A will
consist of 10 questions in the form of MCQ, and the Section B will consist 10
short answer questions. Each answer in Section A will be 1 mark and Section
B will be 2 marks so there will be a total of 30 marks for this stage.
2nd Stage (5 Basic Lashings)
In this stage, the cadets will be asked to draw lots within their own group before
the test start. Each cadet will have a specific lashing to tie on his/her own. The
cadets are supposed to tie the respective lashing individually and complete it;
they can other group members only after they have finished tying their respective
lashing and being checked by the examiner.
There is a time frame of 10 minutes given to the cadets, and each lashing will
carry 6 marks; 3 marks for correct lashing, 2 marks for tidiness and 1 mark for
speed.
A team will be given 11 dowel poles and 1 ball of twine. Requesting of extra
ball of twine will be given with a penalty of -1 mark from the total marks achieved
by the team.
3rd Stage (Mini Pioneering)
For this stage, the cadets will be tested on their teamwork and creativity. They
will be given a scenario to build their mini gadget.
The cadets will be given 30 minutes to complete the task. Within the time given,
they will have to include the planning and discussion time for the gadget. Each
team will have 20 dowel poles and 2 balls of twines. If the teams have caused
any damage to the equipments, there will be no replacement for the damaged
equipments.
The components of the total marks will be focused on the safety (10 marks),
usefulness (10 marks), creativity (10 marks), lashings used (5 marks) and
teamwork (5 marks).
For safety, it will be based on the stability of the gadget and also if the lashings
are tight enough. Usefulness will depend if the gadget is for everyday uses.
Creativity marks will be lower if there are similar ideas. The lashings have to
include at least a round lashing and square lashing. The cadets have to work
together in order to earn the teamwork marks.

Only cadets indicated in this form will be allowed to take part in the competition on the

of the team.
