2. Bible Study
Are you
1. Born Again?
2. 2. Saved?
•Most of the Christians, living in Pakistan today, are merely
Christians in name only.
•Because they were born into a Christian family.
•BUT the Bible teaches us that we must personally accept the Lord
Jesus as our Savior or we are not Christians.
3. Fear of the LORD
(Proverbs 9:10 NIV) "The fear of the LORD is the beginning
of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is
understanding.
(Job 28:28 NIV) And he said to man, 'The fear of the Lord--
that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.'"
(Psa 111:10 NIV) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of
wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good
understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.
(Prov 1:7 NIV) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of
knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
4. The fear of the LORD
(Prov 9:10 NIV) "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of
wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
(Prov 15:33 NIV) The fear of the LORD teaches a man
wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
(Isa 11:2 NIV) The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him-- the
Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of
counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the
fear of the LORD--
(Isa 33:6 NIV) He will be the sure foundation for your
times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge;
the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure.
(Micah 6:9 NIV) Listen! The LORD is calling to the city-- and
to fear your name is wisdom-- "Heed the rod and the One
who appointed it.
5. So then how can we be sure that we are
saved ?
The Bible tells us that we can only be saved if we have a
change of mind about who Christ is. This is called
“Metanoia” meaning a Change of mind or repentance
about who Jesus Christ is. This is a pre-requisite to
being saved. Only after God changes our mind about
Christ can we be saved.
(2 Peter 3:9 NIV) The Lord is not slow in keeping his
promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient
with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone
to come to repentance (Metanoia).
6. Only GOD can open our eyes….
The lord Jesus Christ is asking his disciples a very important question. By extension He is
asking you the same question!
(Matthew 16:15 NIV) "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?“
(Mat 16:16 NIV) Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.“
(Mat 16:17 NIV) Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not
revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.
7. Jesus warned us
John 8:24 (NIV) I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not
believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins.“
Matthew 7:21 (NASB) "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter
the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in
heaven.
What is the will of the Father (in this reference)
John 5:23 (NASB) in order that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the
Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent
Him.
John 5:24 (NASB) "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and
believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into
judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
8. New birth
John 3:3 (NASB) Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to
you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
Faith
Ephesians 2:8 (NASB) For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that
not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; The Bible tells us, that we are saved by
faith in Jesus Christ. But how do we get this “Saving Faith” to begin with ?
Romans 10:17 (NASB) So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of
Christ.
9. The Word of God
Psalms 119:11 (NIV) I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against
you.
King David tells us in Psalms that he has memorized God’s word so that he will not sin
against God. A good example for us to follow.
Ephesians 6:11 (NASB) Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand
firm against the schemes of the devil.
Here the apostle Paul tells us to put on God’s armour or the Word of God, so we can do
battle and be victorious with the Devil and his evil hosts.
Ephesians 6:13 (NASB) Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able
to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
10. Resist the Devil?
James 4:7 (NASB) Submit therefore to God. Resist the
devil and he will flee from you.
Matthew 4:4 (KJV) But he answered and said, It is
written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every
word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Acts 19:11 (NASB) And God was performing extraordinary miracles by the hands of
Paul, (12) so that handkerchiefs or aprons were even carried from his body to the
sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out. (13) But also some of the
Jewish exorcists, who went from place to place, attempted to name over those who
had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, "I adjure (command) you by
Jesus whom Paul preaches." (14) And seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief
priest, were doing this. (15) And the evil spirit answered and said to them, "I recognize
Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" (16) And the man, in whom was
the evil spirit, leaped on them and subdued all of them and overpowered them, so
that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
11. Children of God
Romans 8:15 (NIV) For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to
fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." (16)
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.
Notice evil spirits know a Christian and recognize
him or her. They also submit to a Christian
because we are the children of the Living God.
They do not recognize a person merely because
he uses Jesus’s name or quotes Holy Scripture.
You first need to be declared a spiritual child of
God.
12. Ready Defense
Peter 3:15 (NASB) but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to
make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in
you, yet with gentleness and reverence;
Christians are commanded to
be ready, with the Word of
God in their hearts and
minds to explain why they
are saved. Are you ready to
make a defense for your
Christian beliefs ?
13. Person of Christ
John 20:28 (NASB) Thomas answered & said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" John
20:29 Jesus said^ to him, "Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed
are they who did not see, and yet believed.“
We as Christians, must understand, that we are saved
by faith in a unique person, who is Fully Man and Fully
God, that person is our risen Lord and Saviour, The
Almighty God, Jesus Christ. Otherwise we are dead in
our sins. The apostle Thomas recognized Jesus as his
Lord and his God. Note Jesus told us that we are more
blessed than Thomas, because unlike him, we believe
even though we have not seen or touched physically
the Risen Christ.
14. Spiritual Darkness
(Mat 5:14 NASB) "You (Christians) are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot
be hidden.
(Mat 5:16 NASB) "Let your light shine before
men in such a way that they may see your
good works, and glorify your Father who is in
heaven.
(Mat 6:23 NASB) "But if your eye is bad, your
whole body will be full of darkness. If
therefore the light that is in you is darkness,
how great is the darkness!
15. The Great Commission
(Mat 28:19 NASB) "Go therefore and make
disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and the Son and the
Holy Spirit,
(Mat 28:20 NASB) teaching them to
observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I
am with you always, even to the end of the
age."
16. So what are our goals in this Bible
Study Class
(2 Tim 2:15 NASB) Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a
workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of
truth.
To be able to answer anyone’s questions about our faith.
To be the Light of the world. The greater the Light, the lesser the darkness.
To convert the unsaved, so called Christians to “Disciples”
To prevent this verse of scripture from applying to us. (1 Tim 4:1 NASB) But
the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the
faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons.
To arm the average Christian to answer Cults that knock at his door, such as
Jehovah’s Witnesses and others. (Mat 7:15 NASB) "Beware of the false
prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous
wolves.
