Instructional Designer
Plans, organizes, and develops training curricula, materials, and
programs to meet specific training needs

Analyzes learning needs and partners with subject matter experts t
provide input for course content

Plans and coordinates skill assessments and training; works with
management to ensure course materials are current and relevant to
training needs. May facilitate training during introduction of new
courses

Tracks and analyzes training programs by examining learner's
satisfaction levels, proficiency testing, and job performance

Provides instruction and guidance to trainers

May include the design of computer-based training programs.

Duties at U-M
Develop classroom training for technical skills proficiency on
the job, or soft skills for career growth and development

Develop new or convert existing training to online e-learning
experiences managed by MLearning LMS

Communicate and promote learning programs to staff both
within dept as well as externally

Work within team of educational unit to enhance our services
as well as advancing our own knowledge as educators
Day In the Life
 :30 AM - Email
 nswering questions, scheduling meetings; reviewing shared documents

  AM - Team Huddle
 5-minute roundtable brief of each member’s status for the week and how te
meeting goals

 :30 AM - Teach
 -hour classroom instruction for students learning to use Outlook

  PM - Desk Time
writing/editing course materials
 ollaborating on projects physically and virtually (online)

 PM - Project Meeting
Workgroup discussion around upcoming initiative and strategies to meet sta
raining and communication needs
ducation/Certification/Skil
Typically requires a Bachelors Degree or equivalent
combination of education and experience

Some also prefer a Masters Degree

Certifications of varying worth (inquire with hiring
manager); available through industry professional
organizations such as ASTD, ISTE or Langevin
