Governance refers to the processes and institutions that guide and restrain collective activities, both formally through governments and organizations, and informally. Governance occurs at many levels from private firms and organizations to national and supranational entities. Various indicators have been developed to measure aspects of governance such as transparency, freedom, and levels of corruption.
