According to Julius, A grievance is
“Any discontent or dissatisfaction, whether
expressed or not, whether valid or
not, arising out of anything connected with
the company which the employee
thinks, believes or even feels to be
unfair, unjust or inequitable.”
 A grievance refers to any form of discontent
or dissatisfaction with any aspect of the
organization
 The dissatisfaction must arise out of
employment and not due to personal or
family problems
 Broadly speaking, thus, a grievance is
traceable to perceived non-fulfillment of
one’s expectations from the organization
 Factual
 Imaginary
 Disguised
 Economic
 Work Environment
 Supervision
 Work Group
 Miscellaneous
 1. On Production : Low quality of production ,
Low productivity , Increase in wastage , Increase
in cost of production
 2. On Employees : Increased absenteeism ,
Reduction in level of commitment , Increase in
accidents , Reduced level of employee morale.
 3. On Managers : Strained superior – subordinate
relations , Need for increased
supervision/control & follow up Increase in
unrest ,thereby machinery to maintain industrial
peace.
 The management can know the employee’s
feelings and opinions about the company’s
policies and practices.
 It keeps a check on the supervisor’s attitude
and behavior towards their subordinates.
They are compelled to listen to subordinates
patiently and sympathetically.
 The morale of the employees will be high
with the existence of proper grievance
handling procedure.
