This document discusses new models for open educational resources (OER) using remixable learning-centered content. It outlines how content can be written once and shared everywhere across different formats and devices. Tools are being built to make authoring and editing content similar to word processors while supporting multimedia and math. The goal is for the editor to be ubiquitous across the web and mobile. This is enabled through HTML5 and EPUB3 formats that separate structure from style. Community contributions will further develop components, APIs and open source tools to embed the editor.

Currently Development of education content is incredibly inefficient and moves at glacial pace . In the current system in the US, textbooks are updated only about every 5-7 years. Meaning that even though Pluto was downgraded from a planet to a minor planet in August of 2006 , some students are still being taught with books that reflect incorrect information. This inefficiency is especially pertinent in the fast moving areas of science and technology. *

Content is developed in a manner that does not reflect the interrelatedness of its topics to topics outside of its field. This makes it difficult for learners to connect the dots and explore content making discoveries on their own. *
* Where all the different topics are connected to and inform each other. And topics don’t exist in a vacuum.
If I have to remember a poem, then use speech to text to "grade" me. This can quiz me about when the exam is, and give me pictures of people I met at a conference to remember their names.
