29. 1. Class Climate • Comfort w/ confusion • Appreciation of environment • Feedback for growth
30. What do students think? “ It’s fun to first laugh with one another and then learn from our own actions.” ~Jennifer
31. What do students think? “ It’s the best...the best part of class...I’ve learned so much about myself, and it’s not all pretty, let me tell you!” ~Mother Russia
57. What do students think? “ It was really helpful for the final exam review. Everyone put up great ideas...and just between you and me, the quieter students were the best help!” ~Rachel
Would like to frame my talk today...This is a presentation... Why talk about this? Who am I?
That’s right...Contrary to what you may have been told, I’m here to talk about me!
I have been in the world of education for 20 years. Spectrum of information that bombards you as an educator is profound. How do you figure out what colors work for you? work for your students? Most importantly, how do you keep finding new colors as the years progress?
Quote that has caught my attention, causing a great deal of reflection and growth...
Big fan of Dewey...
Recognizing the changes...
helps us become better models for our children...
Ask yourself the important questions...not just once, but repeatedly over decades of time...
Once the pedagogy is determined beneficial...
Single most influential experience I’ve had in my life...one that has taught me about teaching, along with a host of other things...
Second thing is experience...how I’ve evolved...how I’ve paid attention to the journey and the puzzle pieces I’ve collected along the way...
This picture...epitomizes my classroom goal...
What part of who I am, who I've become will I focus on today?
Everything I do... Self-sufficient scientific community of learners who are challenge to inquire together as a whole class in order to accomplish a task. The word inquiry throws people...(buzzword...scary)
What does it look like?
Went from this....
...to this. Just after a presentation... All classes different. All students different. But they all have value. And we meet up again a year later. It’s not a superficial, temporary connection for many of them...
There is NO ONE TOOL that will create this environment. Pieces...what are they, how do I put them together. This is my ultimate goal is to form a self-sufficient scientific community of learners. (Dennis)
To make this happen...Arsenal of strategies…Two tools (journals/feedback)
So what role does technology play in my overall goal of creating a self-sufficient scientific community of learners? Discuss it in the context of three of my subgoals...
iMovies/Video

iMovies—challenge and reflect,
iMovies—feedback, police each other (pics to get to know one another, filming of a lab for reassurance...)
