Castaneda Report-Katherine Brown- Ex Mex Report PowerPoint
-Immigration-Immigration is one of the greatest issues our nation faces.  Immigration is currently a dilemma  because the  topic has created a divide among the America people and most importantly contributes to racial tensions. While one group may see immigration as a solution, others perceive it as the root of the problem. In Jorge G Castaneda's book Ex Mex: From Migrants To Immigrants, Castaneda creates a clear and concise discussion of Mexican migration and the United States response to it. Castaneda seeks to create an alternative to the historically inaccurate misconceptions about immigration. HIs book also discusses an array of interesting topics regarding Mexican immigration and Mexico's relationship to the United States . Most importantly, Castaneda's  writing can be seen as a positive portrayal of immigration and a source able to show the strong connection between American and Mexican people.
The Great misconception One of the greatest misconceptions that many Americans fall victim to is that all Mexicans are illegal. The entire premise of Castaneda's book is to abolish this misconception. Castaneda acknowledges that a vast amount of Mexicans in the United States are indeed legal. He  discusses that a vast majority obtain their papers. Castaneda illustrates his point with the story of Airplane Mexicana  001 leaving from  New York to Mexico. Castaneda writes that this plane, which frequently flies back and forth to Mexico, is full of Mexican workers. Castaneda writes that a vast amount of these individuals obtain papers, and many of them are not even immigrants. They work  in the restaurant business, are couriers, or are in other jobs in the hospitality industry. Castaneda uses this illustration to address that a majority of immigrants here are completely legal and are truly working to send money back to their country (pg 4).
The Mexicans are taking over!...well not reallyAnother interesting point that Castaneda addresses is the misleading notion that  immigrant are  "taking over" all of the jobs in America. Many politicians use this as part of their political platform. They make the claim that illegal aliens are taking over American jobs because they work for cheaper wages and take advantage of social programs like welfare, medical and the education system.
ConclusionCataneda'swork has  created an articulate and accurate account of Mexican American relations. He displays historic evidence and facts that help discredit the many misleading facts about Mexican immigrants and the relationship between Mexico and the United States. In my opinion I think this book is a saving grace to all the immigrants that have fallen victim to false rumors and racism. In order for America to progress and racial tensions to decrease, Americans need to be familiarized with factual information such as Castaneda's. Castaneda's work is a masterpiece promoting truth and facts for Mexican Immigrants and Americans.
