Why the Mimio Pad? Simple tool to utilize and comes with easy to use software. Convenient and portable design. Students can work right from their seat, no time wasted coming up to the front of the room.  However their work shows up on the front whiteboard. As a teacher you can move around the room and monitor behavior easily while still grabbing students interests because all information is displayed up front even though you are not there. Lesson Plan Description(8th grade math – geometry review) Students involved & engaged while checking for understanding. 7 groups, each having own Mimio Pad, that is hooked up to front computer. Word document with review questions and “I can” statements. All seven responses on screen at one time. See that each group has the same answer. Or correct mistakes by going over answers step-by-step. Collaboration in groups & whole class. Save the work for each problem to the computer to come back to later, or use for notes. Image by: DymoMimio

Students Create Meaningful Learning Group collaboration with all students participating in the review. Each member would help answer and express ideas. Each member takes a turn answering a question using the Mimio Pad. All group responses on how to solve the problem show up on whiteboard up front. Check to make sure everyone has the same answer or go back and look at the process of each if not. Continue discussion until all groups can say “I can explain the difference between radius and diameter,” for example. I can explain what the radius and	I can calculate the volume of a  	diameter of a circle are.			  cone using a formula.  4 9
         Procedures of the Lesson Image by: Duplicom Show them an example on the projector of what a Mimio Pad looks like and point out all of the different options available while utilizing it.  Then is it their turn to practice: Get into groups, pass out Mimio Pad. Member #1 write down their group number on the pad. Member #2 erase number and write a team name. Member #3 open a word document and write “I did it”, then close it out and write “ready to go” on their pad. Member #4 go on our class wiki site where all notes from today’s lesson will be posted. These procedures allow me to see if they can write on the board, correct mistakes, maneuver from one program to another with glitches, and the navigation bar at the top of the pad including internet sites like our class wiki where important information is kept.
Many Utilizations Can be transferred to any subject, grade level, or school because of ease of use. Allows for student “teaching” and learning. Students seeking out information and coming up with conclusions on their own. Teacher can move around the room and monitor behavior at the same time. Great review tool, can save notes as study guide. All students can be involved at once in a group. Great starter for new concepts to get them thinking, using prior knowledge, and forming own hypothesis about what they will be learning. Instructional Strategies Included Students work collaboratively and no one feels left out. Making sure they understand the objectives or “I can” statements. Allows for easy recognition of effort to give praise where due. Helpful for summarizing and note taking. “I can”……
Student Benefits Students are taking responsibility for their own learning. Getting involved and learning to work well cooperatively. Engaged through use of technology. Correcting errors and backing up with rationale from material they have learned already. Take information written on the whiteboard today, save to computer, upload to class website as notes for students to study.  No more I lost my notes 

  • 3. Why the Mimio Pad? Simple tool to utilize and comes with easy to use software. Convenient and portable design. Students can work right from their seat, no time wasted coming up to the front of the room. However their work shows up on the front whiteboard. As a teacher you can move around the room and monitor behavior easily while still grabbing students interests because all information is displayed up front even though you are not there. Lesson Plan Description(8th grade math – geometry review) Students involved & engaged while checking for understanding. 7 groups, each having own Mimio Pad, that is hooked up to front computer. Word document with review questions and “I can” statements. All seven responses on screen at one time. See that each group has the same answer. Or correct mistakes by going over answers step-by-step.   • 6. Students Create Meaningful Learning Group collaboration with all students participating in the review. Each member would help answer and express ideas. Each member takes a turn answering a question using the Mimio Pad. All group responses on how to solve the problem show up on whiteboard up front. Check to make sure everyone has the same answer or go back and look at the process of each if not. Continue discussion until all groups can say “I can explain the difference between radius and diameter,” for example. I can explain what the radius and I can calculate the volume of a diameter of a circle are. cone using a formula. 4 9
  • 7. Procedures of the Lesson Image by: Duplicom Show them an example on the projector of what a Mimio Pad looks like and point out all of the different options available while utilizing it. Then is it their turn to practice: Get into groups, pass out Mimio Pad. Member #1 write down their group number on the pad. Member #2 erase number and write a team name. Member #3 open a word document and write “I did it”, then close it out and write “ready to go” on their pad. Member #4 go on our class wiki site where all notes from today’s lesson will be posted. These procedures allow me to see if they can write on the board, correct mistakes, maneuver from one program to another with glitches, and the navigation bar at the top of the pad including internet sites like our class wiki where important information is kept.
  • 8. Many Utilizations Can be transferred to any subject, grade level, or school because of ease of use. Allows for student “teaching” and learning. Students seeking out information and coming up with conclusions on their own. Teacher can move around the room and monitor behavior at the same time. Great review tool, can save notes as study guide. All students can be involved at once in a group. Great starter for new concepts to get them thinking, using prior knowledge, and forming own hypothesis about what they will be learning. Correcting errors and backing up with rationale from material they have learned already. Take information written on the whiteboard today, save to computer, upload to class website as notes for students to study. No more I lost my notes 
