MMA strength training requires you to perform certain exercises and
in a way that is functional and will enhance the fighter’s technique
itself or allow the fighter to continue executing a technique without
tiring. In other words, the goal of this type of training is to first
develop maximum levels of strength, transmute that new strength
into power, and develop power endurance so that the fighter can
continuously exert maxim power with his technique throughout the
whole fight if it goes the distance. This makes it different from
bodybuilding, which requires you only to train a certain muscle so that
you build muscle mass and symmetry merely for show.
Before you start training, though, you have to ensure that you
undergo a thorough warm up routine. This will make sure that you are
comfortable and that your health is not a problem or a hindrance to
the training session.
Exercises that are often carried over to combat include dead lifts,
where hip and core strength is quite often used in fighting. But no
matter what, keep in mind that the necessary attributes needed in an
MMA training routine are the following: technique, aerobic capacity,
anaerobic endurance, pure strength, strength endurance, explosive
power, power endurance, tactics and strategy, flexibility, speed and
quickness, balance and kinesthetic awareness, mental toughness,
proper nutrition, and weight management.
2. As you can see, MMA strength training is not the same as simple
bodybuilding.
