Superfast broadband will benefit businesses now and in the future by making customers happier through connected technologies, boosting revenue. As the world changes digitally, businesses must assess how to compete by converting skills and practices to the new digital world. Customers will increasingly prefer digital relationships with companies through content, experiences, and platforms supported by tools like superfast broadband, mobile devices, social media, and the cloud. This will allow businesses to better serve customers through improved communication, recruitment, invoicing, and strategy.

Keith has started three successful businesses and has worked with some of the biggest names in the UK Nectar, Debenhams, Next, Office Depot and The Shopping Channel. One of his passions is implementing strategies and systems into businesses.
I want you to think about your business for a moment and how many ways do your customers or clients (including potential) have to get in touch with you? How do you contact with them on a daily basis?Where do you store all your documents? Where does you software reside? Do you have a digital business or a ‘legacy’ business?
So what can you and your business do to survive and grow in this ‘Third Age’ of the Internet? First of all what is the Age of Context? It’s understanding your customers needs, situation and environment.
Connected technologies make for happier customers and that boosts revenue. The big change with this technology revolution is clients are no longer just number or faceless individuals that we only speak to occasionally. They are unique human beings with a set of distinct needs. They now have a very powerful and loud voice and they know how to use it.They now expect and demand to be at the centre of your world and companies must listen and engage to earn trust, every day.
Trust is the new currency that makes the business world revolve. If you don’t have trust in the digital space then you have nothing. So how does all this affect you and your business? Well with the change in how we connect with the world and customers there is no excuse to be complacent when dealing with customers and potential customers. Think back to slide one and the hotel scenario. So what you have to work out is how to connect your employees, partners, suppliers, services and products in new ways to align around customers like never before.
Assessing you're business so it can compete in this changing world

As William Gibson famously said "the future's already here, it's just not evenly distributed". Words to live by :)William Ford Gibson (born March 17, 1948) is an American-Canadian speculative fiction novelist who has been called the "noir prophet" of the cyberpunk subgenre. Gibson coined the term "cyberspace" in his short story "Burning Chrome" (1982) and later popularized the concept in his debut novel, Neuromancer (1984). In envisaging cyberspace, Gibson created an iconography for the information age before the ubiquity of the Internet in the 1990s. He is also credited with predicting the rise of reality television and with establishing the conceptual foundations for the rapid growth of virtual environments such as video games and the World Wide Web.
In the future, customers will prefer digital relationships with companies centered around content, experience and supported by platform.

Do you have a plan? If you don’t then you will be left behind because ‘bolting’ a digital strategy on to you're existing business development plan is a mistake. You need to start from the ground up, why? Thinks of Apple and do you remember when they changed their slogan from ‘Apple Computers’ to just ‘Apple’? No not many can but its clear that someone had the bigger picture in mind that they weren’t just settling for making computers in the future.SFBB will bring a lot of changes like quicker upload and download speeds for moving large files but you have to be ready to take advantage of this.Think back about ten years and the amount of disks that the average office held and fast forward to today and now nearly all ‘downloads’ are Apps for nearly every function you can think of from buying pizza to writing a document. The cost of disks ranged from £100’s to even £1000’s as opposed to today where most apps are small and either free or for pennies in comparison.Disks would take an age to upload to a PC and then there were the updates. Today’s Apps take around 30 seconds to download and we can have literally hundreds of them on our portable devices.
For some people the cloud is full of infinite possibilities where data can be stored and retrieved in a nano second. To others it just another method of Big Brother watching us and spying on our every move and data.Thats a concern that most of have had at one time or another but to really make the cloud work for you're business you only get out what you put in.Making you're devices you're personal assistants is key to becoming a fully connected business that serves their customers in the best way possibleSFBB, like Facebook, Twitter, Salesforce and every other piece of software, hardware and connector is a tool, its a means to an end. That end is you're business serving its customers in the best way possible. Speed of connection and therefore keeping in contact with them just got a whole lot easier.

So what do I use to run my digital business? Well only three devices. A Chromebook, A Nexus 7 tablet and a Samsung Smartphone. It has taken me roughly 18 months to get to this stage but I can run my business from anywhere in the world using only three devices. How many does it take to run you're business?
Clients and potential clients will be able to access large files and documents quickly and on the move as there will be little restriction on downloading file sizes. For businesses on the move and for remote working the number of ‘business hubs’ and ‘dropin’s’ will substantially increase giving them access to SFBB wherever they are within the UKThe Age of Context is upon us and the future will mean that wherever we are we will be able to be connected in ways we never thought possible.Cars will become smarterNew UrbanistsFuelband, Fitbit and Endomondo Sports TrackerFor your business the future is full of endless possibilities and this will only get better and as new technology becomes available and combined with SFBB your access will be easier, faster and more stable.
A farmer reported that his combine harvester had broken down and had called for a technician. The technician came a checked out the combine harvester. He plugged in the diagnostic box and received an error code. He contacted the manufacturer and gave them the code and was then told the harvester had been switched off remotely because the farmer had defaulted on his loan repayments.Think about the different ways you could ‘switch things off’ in the same scenario?
Solicitors and Accountants have many ways on social channels to engage with their clients and none is more powerful than the Google Hangout. Not only can you talk to your clients but you can hold periodic hangouts with other professionals on how the business runs, the latest industry news and what's hot in the solicitor world. This really does make you a connected and engaged business.

So as we are nearing the end I will ask you this question “How will you're business strategy change?” Think about this for a moment because if you are not even thinking about becoming a digital business that is more ‘connected’ with its customers then you are already behind. When you get back to the office checkout you're competitors and see how far advanced in digital they currently are? This will give you the push you need, I guarantee it!
Do you have an EDGE? I think giving you all this information in such a short space of time will leave you with more questions than answers so if you want to answer some of those questions with me why not sign up for one of my Digital Business Development sessions?
