3. Metamodernism http://www.metamodernism.org/
The present is a symptom of the twin birth
of immediacy and obsolescence. Today,
we are nostalgists as much as we are
futurists. The new technology enables
the simultaneous experience and
enactment of events from a multiplicity
of positions. Far from signalling its
demise, these emergent networks facilitate
the democratisation of history,
illuminating the forking paths along which
its grand narratives may navigate the here
and now.
“his work investigates the operations
and oscillations of art, exploring
presence and affect across the physical
and digital realms” About. Luke Turner
“thus, metamodernism shall be defined
as the mercurial condition between and
beyond irony and sincerity, naivety
and knowingness, relativism and truth,
optimism and doubt, in pursuit of a
plurality of disparate and elusive
horizons” -Metamodernist Manifesto

“All my work is about
connection. This project
in particular connected
people offline and
online “.- Rönkkö
“But it created something that is
bigger than all of us, all of the
movies and all of the crowd. It’s
connection. We were all connected
for that moment. More-so for this
show, than any other show we’ve
done.” -LaBeouf
15. “We build work according to people’s commonalities which is not
education or taste but experience of mass media the networks and
human sensibilities”- LaBeouf

Students from Central Saint Martins, a London arts college were asked to write a short script for Shia to act out in front of a green screen. CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSE.
“Submit a piece of text lasting up to 30 seconds or no more than 100 words. This can be as poetic, abstract or literal as you like — with the emphasis on expressing the feeling and tone of the work being introduced.”
And the internet responded.
Moved beyond the words of the students, the performance of Shia and into the art of the audience in continued creation.

How can artists cut through the noise of mass culture and connect meaningfully with their audience- Article on their art asks this- using the internet and connection to do so.
How to connect in a digital culture?
Using technology to connect rather than divide.
There is room for sincerity with the irony. Along with humanity and empathy.
Connecting audience members, audience connecting with the artists.
Explore metamodernism- can it exist without the internet?
Reinserting empathy and humanity into the technology.
