10 principles for a personal productivity system
THE FOLLOWING PRESENTATION HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR

2. Capture all the
stuff in your life
Get it all out of your head
and into a list or backlog
so that you can know
your demand.
“Memento”
3. Focus on long
term outcomes
Set weekly outcomes
based on your goals and
life vision so that your
daily actions are inline
with your goals and vision.
“The Shawshank Redemption”
4. Act!
When in doubt, ask
yourself “What’s the next
action?”
You can’t stop the march
of time or make new
time. If you wait for
favorable conditions, you
will never act.
“Raiders of the Lost Ark”
5. Maximize Value
Maximize value by
focusing on the most
important stuff. There is
only one #1 priority.
Don’t be fooled that you
are effective at multi-
tasking.
“Highlander”
6. Eliminate Waste
Eliminate waste through
delegating, re-negotiating,
and deleting items that
should not command your
attention.
Understand what is
expected of you and
produce quality work to
reduce waste.
“Men at Work”
7. Find your rhythm
Make progress each day
against your goals and
outcomes to take
advantage of the “flywheel
effect.”
Know your power zones
and select the right task
based on your energy
level.
“August Rush”
8. Don’t overburden
your system
Set realistic goals and take
periodic breaks.
“The Shining”
9. Automate
Automate all repetitive
tasks. Use inbox rules.
“Wall-e”
10. Trust your
process
If you can’t trust your
process, you will crash
and burn.
Self-discipline in following
your process is most
important during times of
crisis.
“Apollo 13”
11. Continually
improve
Capture and apply all
learned lessons in order
to improve your process
and get back on track.
“The King’s Speech”
12. Thank You!
