The 3 Ws of posting
◦ What
◦ When
◦ Who
Good morning/afternoon. Thank you for joining me today to discuss social media and the potential benefits it has for Northwestern Technologies. My name is Katie Forzley – I’m the account manager for XYZ Advertising Agency, and I’m excited to discuss with you how social media can impact your company.
Since the early 2000s, websites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Blogger, YouTube, and many others have come about that allow people to log on and interact with one another through the posting of thoughts and ideas, pictures, and videos – if there’s something you want to share with others, there are multiple ways to do so through social media.Facebook logo source: http://src-tv.com/garden-thyme-news/facebook-logo/Linked In logo source: http://www.forbes.com/sites/tomiogeron/2011/10/05/linkedin-acquires-social-crm-company-connected/Twitter logo source: http://www.adrants.com/2010/11/twitter-launches-instream-advertising.phpBlogger logo source: http://c-crosby1013-dc.blogspot.com/2011/05/speaking-from-experience-blogger-logos.htmlYouTube logo source: http://digitalartempire.com/2011/03/youtube-logo-brand/
So, what is social media? It’s an online tool that allows users to foster both new and existing relationships through interaction and the sharing of ideas and media1. The key words here are interaction and relationships – the “social” of social media. 1. https://www-304.ibm.com/partnerworld/wps/servlet/ContentHandler/swg_com_sfw_social_media
At this point you’re probably thinking that this is all well and good, but how does this relate to Northwestern Technologies? We’ve all heard the phrase, “it’s not about what you know, but who you know.” It may be cliché, but it’s true - one of the keys to a successful business is building and maintaining relationships. We already established that social media is used to foster relationships. We just want to take it one step further and apply social media as part of a marketing strategy.
Many companies have already begun to do just that. In December 2008 – threeyears ago – Dell reported $1 million in sales as a result of promotion alerts posted via Twitter2. In April 2011, 42 percent of adult internet users followed at least one retailer on Facebook, Twitter, or a blog site2. So, as you can see, social media can be a very useful tool for businesses.2. http://www.mediabistro.com/alltwitter/history-social-commerce_b15698
But social media isn’t just for B2C companies. B2B companies are utilizing social media, too. A recent study showed that 80 percent of the surveyed B2B businesses participated in blogs and 69 percent in social networks3. Social media allows B2B businesses to post valuable information and resources relating to their company while receiving feedback from other businesses – whether they’re your clients or not – and gaining wider recognition through clients sharing these posts. It even allows for troubleshooting to occur in real time, and since this exchange of information is posted publicly, multiple clients with the same problems can benefit from and even contribute to the discourse.3. http://marketing.about.com/od/internetmarketingstrategy/a/b2bsocialmedia.htm
Your company’s target market, businesses with software needs, is on Facebook, Twitter, blog sites, YouTube, etc, because their target market, the consumer, is on these sites. Therefore, social media is a wise addition to your current marketing strategy. Without it, Northwestern Technologies will be missing out on a valuable method of interaction with existing and prospective clients.
So, why should Northwestern Technologies choose XYZ Advertising? We already have many satisfied clients that go through us for their social media marketing needs. We have the experience our clients lack to navigate the social media market and utilize social media effectively and efficiently to maintain and grow their customer base. I will work with you to design a custom social media marketing plan tailored to meet the needs of Northwestern Technologies. I’ll assist you in determining what form or forms of social media your target market is currently using, and what they’ll likely be using in the near future. I’ll set up accounts for Northwestern Technologies on each of these websites and mentor you in the 3 Ws of social media posting: What, When, and Who. What refers to what sort of information your company should post, When is how frequently you should post, and Who means which of your employees should do the posting .
I hope I have demonstrated the value of social media as it pertains to B2B marketing, and I hope that you’ll choose XYZ Advertising to meet your social media marketing needs. Are there any questions?
