awarded 39 scholarships for a total of $52,650,
with $12,500 ongoing for the next two years.

James III applied for 49 scholarships. To date he
has been awarded 18 worth $31,615 plus his
$22,660 Golf scholarship for a total of $54,275.

3. 1. Volunteer service is critical, if the student isn't helping others, why should
we help them.
2. Get scholarship recommendation letters in late August to early September
of your senior year. Some scholarships have September due dates. You
need one each from a school counselor, favorite teacher, community
member, employer, minister, and/or coach.
DO NOT put a date on it!!!
1. Have at least four generic essays, including one on your future goals and a
personal autobiographical statement.
2. Get one of those large desk calendars and record scholarships and each
due date. Mail application two weeks ahead of due date. (Maintains
parental sanity, hahaha.)
1. Check your campus career center weekly, see if they have a list of
scholarships. Check Schoolloop weekly for updates.

4. 1. Have a parent and your English teacher proofread essays.
2. Use the checklist that comes with the scholarship application to
ensure completion of the packet.
3. Order at least 10 copies of transcripts at the end of each term for
inclusion in the application packets.
4. Try to mail applications no less than 2 weeks ahead of the due
date.
5. Begin your search early.
