UAE:RECAPP launches new rewarding recycling deposit system
Copyright 2022 Al Hilal Publishing and Marketing Group Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc.
UAE - RECAPP, Veolia’s digital recycling solution for individuals and businesses has launched a
new recycling deposit initiative and rewards scheme for implementing reverse vending machines
(RVMs).
This is done in partnership with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) and smart deposit
machines (RSDMs) to increase the recycling reflex and boost the circular economy in the UAE.
The new digital solution comes as a complementary service to RECAPP’s existing free app-based
door-to-door collection service, where RVMs will be used to collect bottles and the RSDMs to collect
bags of recyclables and is in line with Veolia’s strategic vision to offer holistic digital recycling
solutions that benefit both people and the planet.
In Abu Dhabi, RECAPP partners with Masdar City and will implement the first Deposit Return
System with a reward scheme (DRS) in the UAE. These Smart Deposit Machines (RSDMs) will
allow RECAPP to collect an additional 20 million bottles and reinforce the UAE Government’s target
of recovering 50% of single-use plastic bottles.

Plastic pollution
At the same time in Dubai, RECAPP has officially launched its first RVM connected to the app and
offering a lot of rewards. The reveal took place at SALT restaurant in Kite Beach on June 5, 2023,
which also marked World Environment Day, whose theme this year is to beat plastic pollution.
Jérôme Viricel, General Manager of RECAPP at Veolia Near & Middle East, said: “Deploying this
advanced bottle recovery infrastructure and setting up a deposit scheme that rewards recycling
stems from our strong commitment to promoting a circular economy and sustainable consumption
patterns that reduce environmental stress.
We are confident that this new digital solution from Veolia will not only make it more convenient and
accessible for individuals to dispose of their waste responsibly but also provide new momentum to
the culture of recycling across the UAE as it celebrates the Year of Sustainability.”
Sheikha Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of Integrated Environment Policy and Planning Sector at
EAD said: “As the largest environmental regulator in the Middle East, EAD is delighted to partner
with Veolia in implementing this rewarding project by RECAPP.
This initiative is very much in line with Abu Dhabi’s Single-Use Plastic Policy which was launched
in 2020 and an extension of the Agency’s ‘Mission to Zero’ public facing outreach campaign which
aspires for the ambitious target of zero plastic, zero waste, zero emissions and zero harm to
biodiversity.
Activations and advertising
“The campaign is composed of activations and advertising to engage the community to inspire a
culture of recycling. Such initiatives play a critical role in generating public awareness on the
importance of recycling single-use water bottles as a means to prevent them from entering the
environment and harming it for a sustainable future for all.
This partnership is a key milestone of the implementation of our umbrella policy which strives to
reduce the reliance on single-use plastic items of which bottles are an example. To complement the
RVMs we will be launching an awareness campaign to generate interest from the community so
they actually collect the bottles and make them available to be recycled.
To support the success of such a project, EAD has engaged key stakeholders such as large
retailers, major attraction sites, real estate developers, among others. The Agency has also invited
private sector packaging entities to ensure higher volume of bottle recovery in the emirate.”

The RVMs provide an instant recycling solution and can recycle all types of plastic water and
beverage bottles and cans. They work by recycling bottle by bottle and can be placed indoors or
outdoors in high-traffic locations. All RVMs are connected to the RECAPP app and reward users
with 150 points per recycled bottle which is 8 times more compared to the Door to Door incentive!
The RSDMs enable users to drop off their full bag of recyclables at convenient outdoor locations
such as communities, supermarket parking lots, or petrol stations. The RSDMs are connected to
the RECAPP app and reward users with 1500 points per 1 kg of recyclables deposited.
RECAPP app users can redeem the points earned from RVMs and RSDMs against attractive
vouchers from a wide variety of top brands – including groceries, fashion, and e-commerce.
Holistic digital recycling
RECAPP was launched by Veolia Near & Middle East, the benchmark company for ecological
transformation, in November 2020 as the first recycling app in the UAE. It has now transformed into
a holistic digital recycling solution for individuals and businesses, employing third-party carriers to
collect several categories of small waste streams that are often poorly managed.
Over the years, RECAPP h as grown into a community of 55,000 users, collecting more than 1,000
tonnes of recyclables, including 34 million PET plastic bottles, 1 million of PET trays, 1 million
aluminium cans, 1.5 million metal tins, and 1.8 million of home care and personal care containers.
It has rewarded users with 65,000 vouchers, built a portfolio of 18 reward partners, and helped
reduce CO2 emissions by 2,100 tonnes.

The two countries concluded Cepa talks in April and the agreement aims to eliminate or reduce
customs duties, remove unnecessary trade barriers, support investment, open market access to
services exports and create more opportunities for businesses to forge partnerships.
The UAE-Cambodia Cepa is a “new milestone in our foreign trade agenda that strengthens our
growing role in the east-west trade corridor”, said Dr Al Zeyoudi.
“It will not only contribute to our goal of doubling non-oil foreign trade by 2031 but also expand our
presence in the rapidly growing economies of South-East Asia, opening new doors for exporters to
reach millions of consumers.

market. Photo: Ministry of Economy . The UAE, which aims to boost trade and economic relations
with countries around the globe, is working towards signing 26 Cepas as it seeks to attract more
investment and diversify its economy.
The country has already signed similar deals with India, Israel and Indonesia, Turkey and is close
to concluding agreements with Kenya. It aims to eliminate unnecessary trade barriers, increase
market access and set up investment and trade ventures with its partners.
Trade between the UAE and Cambodia increased to $407 million in 2022, an annual 33 per cent
from 2021, and gained 28 per cent compared with 2019. The UAE is also one of Cambodia's top
trading partner in the Arab world, accounting for 70 per cent of its trade with the region in 2022, the
Ministry of Economy.
A wide range of investment opportunities in the tourism, logistics, infrastructure and renewable
energy sectors are expected with the agreement's enforcement, the ministry said.
The accord opens up various service sectors in the Cambodian market to UAE businesses while
also guaranteeing products from the Emirates access to the Cambodian market, covering 92 per
cent of customs tariff lines and more than 93 per cent of the value of non-oil trade.
Both countries will now complete the necessary requirements and internal legal procedures for
ratification of the Cepa, with the deal set to enter into force before the fourth quarter of this year.
UAE exports are projected to reach Dh2 trillion ($545 billion) by 2030, with trade growing faster than
the global average as the Emirates focuses on developing new trade corridors and diversifying its
exports.
The country's exports are projected to increase by 5.5 per cent annually, with metals and minerals
(accounting for 73 per cent of exports by 2030) and plastics and rubbers set to drive growth,
according to estimates from Standard Chartered.
The UAE aims to deepen trade and investment ties with fast-growing economies in Asia, Africa and
the Middle East, as well as attract $150 billion in foreign investment into its domestic non-oil
industries and diversify its export profile.
The UAE's goods trade with the rest of
the world hit $1.02 trillion in 2022, with
exports and imports increasing due to
higher crude oil prices, according to
the World Trade Organisation's Global
Trade Outlook and Statistics report
released in April.
The Gulf country accounted for 2.4 per
cent of the world's goods exports last
year, the WTO said.

The landmark wind project will produce 47,790 GWh of clean energy per year and reduce around 9
percent of Egypt’s annual carbon emissions by displacing 23.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide
annually. The wind farm will also help Egypt meet its strategic objective of sourcing 42 percent of
its energy from renewables by 2030. The 10 GW plant will save the North African nation an
estimated US$ 5 billion in natural gas costs a year.
The original agreement to develop the 10 GW wind farm was signed between Masdar, Hassan
Allam Utilities and Infinity Power and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission company and witnessed
by the presidents of the UAE and Egypt on the sidelines of the UN climate change conference,
COP27, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt last year.
As the UAE’s flagship renewable energy company, Masdar’s role demonstrates its deep and lasting
commitment towards supporting African nations such as Egypt to meet their ambitious renewable
energy objectives. The project is being developed by the consortium led by Masdar and its partners:
Infinity Power, Masdar’s joint venture with Egypt’s Infinity, which is Africa’s largest pure play
renewable power company; and Hassan Allam Utilities, a sustainable infrastructure focused
investment platform.
HE Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Chairman of Masdar
and COP28 President-Designate, said: 'This 10GW onshore wind project is set to be one of the

renewable energy capacity by 2030 to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. Projects like these
will support the global efforts to reduce the impact of climate change and help keep the ambition of
1.5 intact while enabling significant socio-economic growth. The UAE looks forward to hosting
COP28, we continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Global South in their efforts to
decarbonize and secure a just energy transition.'
HE Dr Mohamed Shaker Al-Markabi, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy in Egypt,
said: 'Egypt has an ambitious program to advance the Egyptian electricity sector in various fields,
foremost of which is optimizing the use of new and renewable energy resources and encouraging
investment in this field, which would contribute to reducing dependence on fossil fuels and continue
to reduce carbon emissions, in line with Egypt’s energy strategy to have up to 42 percent of our
energy mix from renewable energy sources by 2030, while complementing the National Climate
Strategy 2050 to face the challenges of climate change and achieve sustainable economic growth.'
He added: 'This project represents a continuation of the historical and brotherly relations between
the Arab Republic of Egypt and the UAE and reflects the fruitful and constructive cooperation
between the two brotherly countries. Renewable energy in Egypt has the potential to attract direct
foreign investments, and the national Egyptian entities play a vital role in creating an environment
that is supportive of investment with low risks, and high interaction with the financing institutions
and development partners. In addition, Egypt has comparative advantages in terms of the land
available which is necessary to produce a huge volume of electricity from renewable resources.
Furthermore, Egypt's geographical location enables it to export green energy to Europe, especially
as the country looks to further enhance and raise the efficiency of its national grid.'
In March, Masdar became the largest operator of renewables in Africa after its joint venture with
Egypt’s Infinity - Infinity Power - acquired Lekela Power, a renewables developer with operations
across the continent. Masdar also demonstrated its commitment to African nations by signing deals
to develop renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of up to 5 GW in Angola, Uganda,
and Zambia, in January.
Nayer Fouad, CEO, Infinity Power said: 'This project is a milestone achievement for us at Infinity
Power, which reflects the partnership between Masdar and Infinity Power as a leading investment
platform in renewable energy. It not only positions us as a leading provider of renewable energy but
also strengthens the growing relationship between the Emirates and Egypt. Apart from being a key
source of renewable energy, the farm will also create employment opportunities for local
communities.'
Amr Allam, CEO, Hassan Allam Holding said: 'I am proud to witness the launch of the development
of our planned 10 GW wind energy program, in partnership with Masdar, and Infinity Power. In
addition to helping meet Egypt’s growing energy needs, the project aligns seamlessly with the
nation’s sustainable development goals. We are confident that this collaboration will deliver on its
targets, paving the way towards a more eco-friendly and prosperous future for Egypt.'
Egypt is the Middle East and North Africa’s most populous country and has an abundance of
renewable energy sources, including wind and solar. Masdar has a large presence in Egypt with
projects dating back to 2015, which represents a starting point to target the African continent through
Infinity Power platform.
During COP27 last year, Masdar, Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities also signed agreements
with Egyptian state-backed organizations to develop green hydrogen and derivatives’ production
facilities. The consortium is targeting a capacity of 4 GW by 2030, and an output of up to 480,000
tonnes of green hydrogen per year.

Germany: RWE builds 2 large-scale battery storage project in
North Rhine-Westphalia.. Source: RWE
RWE has begun construction of one of Germany’s largest battery storage facilities at its power plant
locations in Neurath and Hamm. The facility will have a capacity of 220 megawatts (MW) and
storage capacity of 235 megawatt hours (MWh). A total of 690 lithium-ion battery blocks will be
installed at the facility, involving an investment of approx. 140 million euros.
 RWE is constructing one of Germany’s largest BESS, with a storage capacity of 235
megawatt hours
 RWE to invest approximately 140 million euros in this project at the power station locations
in Neurath and Hamm
 The battery storage facility is scheduled to supply balancing energy from second half of 2024,
and will also be deployed in the wholesale market
Roger Miesen, CEO RWE Generation: 'As the proportion of renewables in the electricity
mix increases, so does the need for flexible battery storage systems. They balance out fluctuations
in the electricity grid in seconds, which means they are the key to a reliable electricity supply. In
terms of size and technology, the new large-scale battery storage facility in Neurath and Hamm is
setting standards throughout Europe.'
Lars Kulik, member of the Board of RWE Power: 'With this battery storage facility, RWE is providing
a major boost to structural transformation in North Rhine-Westphalia. By making practical use of the

existing locations and grid connections, we are making the traditional power plant sites of Hamm
and Neurath important partners for renewables.'
Klaus Krützen, Mayor of Grevenbroich: 'The decision in favour of Neurath is an important signal
from RWE to the entire region. So even after the exit from lignite, Neurath will continue to be
important in helping to stabilise the grid and ensure a reliable electricity supply.'
Marc Herter, Mayor of Hamm: 'The construction of the large battery storage facility at the Westfalen
power plant once again underlines the tradition and importance of Hamm as an energy location.
The large-scale battery storage facility secures the energy supply and forms an important
foundation for the success of the energy transition. We are pleased that RWE is accompanying us
on the way to a climate-neutral economy in Hamm.'
The BESS is scheduled to supply balancing energy to stabilise the electricity grid from second half
of 2024. This will entail the plant taking excess power from the electricity grid and feeding it back
into the system when required, in order to maintain the required grid frequency. The battery storage
facility will also be deployed on the wholesale market. Electricity will be taken into the storage
system if electricity prices are low, and conversely will be fed out when prices are high.
The planned battery storage facility can operate at its maximum capacity of 220 MW for over an
hour. That is enough to charge the equivalent of about 4,000 EVs. The facility will also be virtually
networked with RWE power stations in Germany, which will make it possible to control whether the
storage units work alone or in conjunction with other power stations to supply balancing energy.
The new battery storage facility thus optimises the use of RWE’s German power station portfolio
across a range of technologies. In this regard, RWE benefits from its many years of experience with

In Neurath, batteries with a total capacity of 80 MW (84 MWh) will be installed on an area of around
7,500 m², which is the equivalent of about one football pitch. About 50 million euros of the planned
total investment volume of 140 million euros will be invested in Neurath.
Hamm
Batteries with a total capacity of 140 MW (151 MWh) will be installed at Hamm-Uentrop, covering
an area of 14,000 m². Hamm will benefit from investment of about 90 million euros of the planned
total investment volume of 140 million euros.
Battery storage@RWE
Battery storage systems are an essential part of the energy transition because they store the leftover
electricity resulting from overproduction in the grid and make it available again when it is needed.
As one of the leaders of the energy transition, RWE develops, builds and operates battery storage
systems in Europe, Australia and the US.
RWE currently operates a total installed battery storage capacity of approximately 300 MW (380
MWh) and is implementing battery storage projects of more than 900 MW (2,300 MWh) worldwide.
Globally, RWE aims to build three gigawatts of batteries by 2030.
In Germany, RWE commissioned its mega battery in Lingen and Werne, with a total capacity of 117
MW, at the beginning of 2023. It also plans to virtually connect the battery storage system with its
run-of-river power plants on the Moselle River.
In March, the company acquired British developer JBM Solar, with an advanced development
pipeline of 2.3 gigawatts of battery storage projects. Following the commissioning of the Indeland
solar farm with its 4.8-MW battery storage facility, RWE is currently constructing further
battery storage projects of this nature at the Garzweiler open-cast mine. And RWE recently won an
Australian tender for a long-term battery storage facility (50 MW/400 MWh).

Oil rises as Saudi cut supports and focus turns to Fed
Reuters + NewBase
Oil rose on Thursday as tighter supply resulting from Saudi Arabia's pledged production cut and a
potential pause to U.S. interest rate hikes offset worries over demand weakness and a global
economic slowdown.
At an OPEC+ meeting on Sunday, Saudi Arabia said it will cut its crude output by 1 million barrels
per day (bpd) in July on top of a broader deal to limit supply into 2024 as the producer group seeks
to boost flagging prices.
Brent crude rose 19 cents, or 0.25%, to $77.14 a barrel by 1417 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate
crude gained 17 cents, or 0.23%, to $72.70.
"With the OPEC+ meeting out of the way, focus is now shifting towards the next move the Fed will
make when it meets next week," said Tamas Varga of oil broker PVM.
There is growing consensus that the central bank will skip a rate hike, which could lift oil prices even
before falling supply starts draining global oil inventories, Varga added.

Economists polled by Reuters expect that the U.S. Federal Reserve will not raise interest rates at
its June 13-14 meeting. But a significant minority expects at least one more increase this year.
Still, a surprise rate increase in Canada gave investors their second reminder of the week that the
surge in global interest rates is not done yet.
"Oil prices have been attempting to recover lately," said IG market strategist Yeap Jun Rong. "But
it has been a struggle."
The U.S dollar was slightly weaker on Thursday, making oil cheaper for buyers holding other
currencies.
Both oil benchmarks settled up about 1% on Wednesday, supported by the Saudi plan, though gains
remained capped by rising U.S. fuel stocks and weak Chinese economic data.
A larger than expected rise in U.S. gasoline inventories raised concern over demand while U.S.
crude stockpiles registered a small decline of 451,000 barrels.

CLEAN ENERGY
Increased U.S. renewable and natural gas generation
likely to reduce summer coal demand
U.S. Energy Information Administration, Short-Term Energy Outlook, June 2023
We forecast that the largest increases in U.S. electricity generation this summer (June, July, and
August) will come from solar, wind, and natural gas-fired power plants because of new generating
capacity coming online, according to our June Short-Term Energy Outlook. The rising generation
from these sources will likely be offset by reduced generation from coal-fired power plants.
Natural gas remains the primary source of generation in the electric power sector, and we expect
U.S. natural gas-fired generation will grow by 3%, or 16.7 terawatthours (TWh), this summer
compared with last year. Additional natural gas-fired generating capacity and favorable fuel costs
are the primary drivers of our forecast increase in generation from natural gas this summer.
A large share of the new generating capacity built in the United States over the past few years is
powered by solar or wind. The U.S. electric power sector added an estimated 14.5 gigawatts (GW)
of solar generating capacity and about 8.0 GW of wind capacity during the 12 months ending May
31, 2023.

Wind power has been the leading source of new renewable electricity generation in recent years
and is an especially important component of the generation mix for some regions during the spring
months. We forecast that U.S. wind-powered generation this summer will be 7% (5.8 TWh) higher
than last summer.
Much of the solar-powered generating capacity that has been installed in recent months is
concentrated in Texas and California. We expect that new solar capacity will lead to a 24% (10.8
TWh) increase in total generation this summer compared with last summer. Many solar projects are
also being built with associated battery storage systems to help provide power when solar and wind
resources are low. The electric power sector has added an estimated 5.3 GW of battery capacity in
the past 12 months, a nearly 90% increase.
Data source: U.S. Energy Information Administration, Short-Term Energy Outlook, June 2023
In addition to the continuing growth in generation from renewable energy sources, we forecast 4.5
TWh more nuclear generation this summer than in summer 2022 as result of the planned opening
of a new reactor at the Vogtle nuclear power plant. In contrast to this newly added nuclear capacity,
a number of reactors at other nuclear plants have retired in recent years.
We expect the increase in summer generation from solar, wind, and nuclear power to contribute to
reduced generation from coal-fired power plants. Between June 2022 and May 2023, about 11 GW
of U.S. coal capacity retired, and we expect 15% (36.0 TWh) less U.S. coal-fired generation this
summer compared with last summer.

U.S. electricity generation from natural gas was highest on record this past winter
According to our Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), U.S. electricity generation from natural gas
reached a record-high 619 billion kilowatthours (BkWh) during the most recent winter heating
season (November 1–March 31), averaging more than 120 BkWh per month and accounting for
38% of the country’s electricity generation mix.
Electricity generation from natural gas increased in the United States this past winter due to
increased demand for electricity and continued reductions in electricity generation from coal.
U.S. electricity generation from natural gas peaks in the summer when demand for electricity is
greatest—largely driven by demand for air conditioning. A smaller peak occurs during the winter,
when homes and businesses in some areas of the country use heat pumps, electric radiators, space
heaters, and other electric-heating equipment to heat buildings.

Overall, U.S. electricity generation this past winter was the highest since at least 1997. The
increased electricity demand was met by natural gas, wind, and solar—all of which increased their
overall electricity generation compared with the previous winter of 2021–22. In contrast, electricity
generation from coal decreased compared with the previous winter.
Data source: U.S. Energy Information Administration, Short-Term Energy Outlook
Natural gas-fired power plants are relatively flexible to operate because they can ramp electricity
generation up or down relatively quickly to meet demand fluctuations. Coal-fired electricity declined
throughout 2022 and into 2023 because of a long-term trend of coal capacity retirements as well as
increased competition from natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plants when natural gas prices
are low.
As a result, the natural gas-fired share of the U.S. electricity generation mix increased from 35% in
winter 2021–22 to 38% last winter. During the same period, coal’s generation share fell from 21%
to 18%.
Renewables’ share of
electricity generation also
increased to help meet overall
electricity demand. In 2022, 8
gigawatts (GW) of new wind
capacity additions and 10 GW
of new solar capacity
additions came online,
according to our Electric
Power Monthly.

Khaed Al Awadi NewBase for discussion or further details on the news below you may contact us on +971504822502, Dubai, UAE UAE:RECAPP launches new rewarding recycling deposit system Copyright 2022 Al Hilal Publishing and Marketing Group Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. UAE - RECAPP, Veolia’s digital recycling solution for individuals and businesses has launched a new recycling deposit initiative and rewards scheme for implementing reverse vending machines (RVMs). This is done in partnership with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) and smart deposit machines (RSDMs) to increase the recycling reflex and boost the circular economy in the UAE. The new digital solution comes as a complementary service to RECAPP’s existing free app-based door-to-door collection service, where RVMs will be used to collect bottles and the RSDMs to collect bags of recyclables and is in line with Veolia’s strategic vision to offer holistic digital recycling solutions that benefit both people and the planet. In Abu Dhabi, RECAPP partners with Masdar City and will implement the first Deposit Return System with a reward scheme (DRS) in the UAE. These Smart Deposit Machines (RSDMs) will allow RECAPP to collect an additional 20 million bottles and reinforce the UAE Government’s target of recovering 50% of single-use plastic bottles. ww.linkedin.com/in/khaled-al-awadi-80201019/

Page 2 Plastic pollution At the same time in Dubai, RECAPP has officially launched its first RVM connected to the app and offering a lot of rewards. The reveal took place at SALT restaurant in Kite Beach on June 5, 2023, which also marked World Environment Day, whose theme this year is to beat plastic pollution. Jérôme Viricel, General Manager of RECAPP at Veolia Near & Middle East, said: “Deploying this advanced bottle recovery infrastructure and setting up a deposit scheme that rewards recycling stems from our strong commitment to promoting a circular economy and sustainable consumption patterns that reduce environmental stress. We are confident that this new digital solution from Veolia will not only make it more convenient and accessible for individuals to dispose of their waste responsibly but also provide new momentum to the culture of recycling across the UAE as it celebrates the Year of Sustainability.” Sheikha Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of Integrated Environment Policy and Planning Sector at EAD said: “As the largest environmental regulator in the Middle East, EAD is delighted to partner with Veolia in implementing this rewarding project by RECAPP. This initiative is very much in line with Abu Dhabi’s Single-Use Plastic Policy which was launched in 2020 and an extension of the Agency’s ‘Mission to Zero’ public facing outreach campaign which aspires for the ambitious target of zero plastic, zero waste, zero emissions and zero harm to biodiversity. Activations and advertising “The campaign is composed of activations and advertising to engage the community to inspire a culture of recycling. Such initiatives play a critical role in generating public awareness on the importance of recycling single-use water bottles as a means to prevent them from entering the environment and harming it for a sustainable future for all. This partnership is a key milestone of the implementation of our umbrella policy which strives to reduce the reliance on single-use plastic items of which bottles are an example. To complement the RVMs we will be launching an awareness campaign to generate interest from the community so they actually collect the bottles and make them available to be recycled. To support the success of such a project, EAD has engaged key stakeholders such as large retailers, major attraction sites, real estate developers, among others. The Agency has also invited private sector packaging entities to ensure higher volume of bottle recovery in the emirate.”

Page 3 The RVMs provide an instant recycling solution and can recycle all types of plastic water and beverage bottles and cans. They work by recycling bottle by bottle and can be placed indoors or outdoors in high-traffic locations. All RVMs are connected to the RECAPP app and reward users with 150 points per recycled bottle which is 8 times more compared to the Door to Door incentive! The RSDMs enable users to drop off their full bag of recyclables at convenient outdoor locations such as communities, supermarket parking lots, or petrol stations. The RSDMs are connected to the RECAPP app and reward users with 1500 points per 1 kg of recyclables deposited. RECAPP app users can redeem the points earned from RVMs and RSDMs against attractive vouchers from a wide variety of top brands – including groceries, fashion, and e-commerce. Holistic digital recycling RECAPP was launched by Veolia Near & Middle East, the benchmark company for ecological transformation, in November 2020 as the first recycling app in the UAE. It has now transformed into a holistic digital recycling solution for individuals and businesses, employing third-party carriers to collect several categories of small waste streams that are often poorly managed. Over the years, RECAPP h as grown into a community of 55,000 users, collecting more than 1,000 tonnes of recyclables, including 34 million PET plastic bottles, 1 million of PET trays, 1 million aluminium cans, 1.5 million metal tins, and 1.8 million of home care and personal care containers. It has rewarded users with 65,000 vouchers, built a portfolio of 18 reward partners, and helped reduce CO2 emissions by 2,100 tonnes.

Page 4 UAE and Cambodia sign economic pact to boost trade ties The National - Massoud A Derhally The UAE and the Cambodia have signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement that aims to more than double non-oil bilateral trade over the coming five years. The accord aims to boost trade to $1 billion from to $407 million in 2022, the UAE Ministry of Economy said on Thursday. The agreement was signed in Phnom Penh by Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and Pan Sorasak, Cambodia's Minister of Commerce, in the presence of Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen. The UAE-Cambodia Cepa is a “new milestone in our foreign trade agenda that strengthens our growing role in the east-west trade corridor”, said Dr Al Zeyoudi. “It will not only contribute to our goal of doubling non-oil foreign trade by 2031 but also expand our presence in the rapidly growing economies of South-East Asia, opening new doors for exporters to reach millions of consumers.

We will continue to expand global trade to foster long-term, sustainable growth and economic diversification with all whom we do business with.” The UAE and Cambodia Cepa guarantees improved access for UAE products to the Cambodian market. Photo: Ministry of Economy . The UAE, which aims to boost trade and economic relations with countries around the globe, is working towards signing 26 Cepas as it seeks to attract more investment and diversify its economy. The country has already signed similar deals with India, Israel and Indonesia, Turkey and is close to concluding agreements with Kenya. It aims to eliminate unnecessary trade barriers, increase market access and set up investment and trade ventures with its partners. Trade between the UAE and Cambodia increased to $407 million in 2022, an annual 33 per cent from 2021, and gained 28 per cent compared with 2019. The UAE is also one of Cambodia's top trading partner in the Arab world, accounting for 70 per cent of its trade with the region in 2022, the Ministry of Economy. A wide range of investment opportunities in the tourism, logistics, infrastructure and renewable energy sectors are expected with the agreement's enforcement, the ministry said. The accord opens up various service sectors in the Cambodian market to UAE businesses while also guaranteeing products from the Emirates access to the Cambodian market, covering 92 per cent of customs tariff lines and more than 93 per cent of the value of non-oil trade. Both countries will now complete the necessary requirements and internal legal procedures for ratification of the Cepa, with the deal set to enter into force before the fourth quarter of this year. UAE exports are projected to reach Dh2 trillion ($545 billion) by 2030, with trade growing faster than the global average as the Emirates focuses on developing new trade corridors and diversifying its exports. The country's exports are projected to increase by 5.5 per cent annually, with metals and minerals (accounting for 73 per cent of exports by 2030) and plastics and rubbers set to drive growth, according to estimates from Standard Chartered. The UAE aims to deepen trade and investment ties with fast-growing economies in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, as well as attract $150 billion in foreign investment into its domestic non-oil industries and diversify its export profile. The UAE's goods trade with the rest of the world hit $1.02 trillion in 2022, with exports and imports increasing due to higher crude oil prices, according to the World Trade Organisation's Global Trade Outlook and Statistics report released in April. The Gulf country accounted for 2.4 per cent of the world's goods exports last year, the WTO said.

The UAE looks forward to hosting COP28, we continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Global South in their efforts to decarbonize and secure a just energy transition.' HE Dr Mohamed Shaker Al-Markabi, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy in Egypt, said: 'Egypt has an ambitious program to advance the Egyptian electricity sector in various fields, foremost of which is optimizing the use of new and renewable energy resources and encouraging investment in this field, which would contribute to reducing dependence on fossil fuels and continue to reduce carbon emissions, in line with Egypt’s energy strategy to have up to 42 percent of our energy mix from renewable energy sources by 2030, while complementing the National Climate Strategy 2050 to face the challenges of climate change and achieve sustainable economic growth.' He added: 'This project represents a continuation of the historical and brotherly relations between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the UAE and reflects the fruitful and constructive cooperation between the two brotherly countries. Renewable energy in Egypt has the potential to attract direct foreign investments, and the national Egyptian entities play a vital role in creating an environment that is supportive of investment with low risks, and high interaction with the financing institutions and development partners. In addition, Egypt has comparative advantages in terms of the land available which is necessary to produce a huge volume of electricity from renewable resources. Furthermore, Egypt's geographical location enables it to export green energy to Europe, especially as the country looks to further enhance and raise the efficiency of its national grid.' In March, Masdar became the largest operator of renewables in Africa after its joint venture with Egypt’s Infinity - Infinity Power - acquired Lekela Power, a renewables developer with operations across the continent. Masdar also demonstrated its commitment to African nations by signing deals to develop renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of up to 5 GW in Angola, Uganda, and Zambia, in January. Nayer Fouad, CEO, Infinity Power said: 'This project is a milestone achievement for us at Infinity Power, which reflects the partnership between Masdar and Infinity Power as a leading investment platform in renewable energy. It not only positions us as a leading provider of renewable energy but also strengthens the growing relationship between the Emirates and Egypt. Apart from being a key source of renewable energy, the farm will also create employment opportunities for local communities.' Amr Allam, CEO, Hassan Allam Holding said: 'I am proud to witness the launch of the development of our planned 10 GW wind energy program, in partnership with Masdar, and Infinity Power. In addition to helping meet Egypt’s growing energy needs, the project aligns seamlessly with the nation’s sustainable development goals. We are confident that this collaboration will deliver on its targets, paving the way towards a more eco-friendly and prosperous future for Egypt.' Egypt is the Middle East and North Africa’s most populous country and has an abundance of renewable energy sources, including wind and solar. Masdar has a large presence in Egypt with projects dating back to 2015, which represents a starting point to target the African continent through Infinity Power platform. During COP27 last year, Masdar, Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities also signed agreements with Egyptian state-backed organizations to develop green hydrogen and derivatives’ production facilities. The consortium is targeting a capacity of 4 GW by 2030, and an output of up to 480,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.

Page 10 existing locations and grid connections, we are making the traditional power plant sites of Hamm and Neurath important partners for renewables.' Klaus Krützen, Mayor of Grevenbroich: 'The decision in favour of Neurath is an important signal from RWE to the entire region. So even after the exit from lignite, Neurath will continue to be important in helping to stabilise the grid and ensure a reliable electricity supply.' Marc Herter, Mayor of Hamm: 'The construction of the large battery storage facility at the Westfalen power plant once again underlines the tradition and importance of Hamm as an energy location. The large-scale battery storage facility secures the energy supply and forms an important foundation for the success of the energy transition. We are pleased that RWE is accompanying us on the way to a climate-neutral economy in Hamm.' The BESS is scheduled to supply balancing energy to stabilise the electricity grid from second half of 2024. This will entail the plant taking excess power from the electricity grid and feeding it back into the system when required, in order to maintain the required grid frequency. The battery storage facility will also be deployed on the wholesale market. Electricity will be taken into the storage system if electricity prices are low, and conversely will be fed out when prices are high. The planned battery storage facility can operate at its maximum capacity of 220 MW for over an hour. That is enough to charge the equivalent of about 4,000 EVs. The facility will also be virtually networked with RWE power stations in Germany, which will make it possible to control whether the storage units work alone or in conjunction with other power stations to supply balancing energy. The new battery storage facility thus optimises the use of RWE’s German power station portfolio across a range of technologies. In this regard, RWE benefits from its many years of experience with

Page 11 energy storage systems and is therefore taking care of the detailed planning, modelling, system integration and commissioning of the project directly and entirely on its own. Neurath In Neurath, batteries with a total capacity of 80 MW (84 MWh) will be installed on an area of around 7,500 m², which is the equivalent of about one football pitch. About 50 million euros of the planned total investment volume of 140 million euros will be invested in Neurath. Hamm Batteries with a total capacity of 140 MW (151 MWh) will be installed at Hamm-Uentrop, covering an area of 14,000 m². Hamm will benefit from investment of about 90 million euros of the planned total investment volume of 140 million euros. Battery storage@RWE Battery storage systems are an essential part of the energy transition because they store the leftover electricity resulting from overproduction in the grid and make it available again when it is needed. As one of the leaders of the energy transition, RWE develops, builds and operates battery storage systems in Europe, Australia and the US. RWE currently operates a total installed battery storage capacity of approximately 300 MW (380 MWh) and is implementing battery storage projects of more than 900 MW (2,300 MWh) worldwide. Globally, RWE aims to build three gigawatts of batteries by 2030. In Germany, RWE commissioned its mega battery in Lingen and Werne, with a total capacity of 117 MW, at the beginning of 2023. It also plans to virtually connect the battery storage system with its run-of-river power plants on the Moselle River. In March, the company acquired British developer JBM Solar, with an advanced development pipeline of 2.3 gigawatts of battery storage projects. Following the commissioning of the Indeland solar farm with its 4.8-MW battery storage facility, RWE is currently constructing further battery storage projects of this nature at the Garzweiler open-cast mine. And RWE recently won an Australian tender for a long-term battery storage facility (50 MW/400 MWh).

At an OPEC+ meeting on Sunday, Saudi Arabia said it will cut its crude output by 1 million barrels per day (bpd) in July on top of a broader deal to limit supply into 2024 as the producer group seeks to boost flagging prices. Brent crude rose 19 cents, or 0.25%, to $77.14 a barrel by 1417 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude gained 17 cents, or 0.23%, to $72.70. "With the OPEC+ meeting out of the way, focus is now shifting towards the next move the Fed will make when it meets next week," said Tamas Varga of oil broker PVM. There is growing consensus that the central bank will skip a rate hike, which could lift oil prices even before falling supply starts draining global oil inventories, Varga added. Page 13 Economists polled by Reuters expect that the U.S. Federal Reserve will not raise interest rates at its June 13-14 meeting. But a significant minority expects at least one more increase this year. Still, a surprise rate increase in Canada gave investors their second reminder of the week that the surge in global interest rates is not done yet. "Oil prices have been attempting to recover lately," said IG market strategist Yeap Jun Rong. "But it has been a struggle." The U.S dollar was slightly weaker on Thursday, making oil cheaper for buyers holding other currencies. Both oil benchmarks settled up about 1% on Wednesday, supported by the Saudi plan, though gains remained capped by rising U.S. fuel stocks and weak Chinese economic data. A larger than expected rise in U.S. gasoline inventories raised concern over demand while U.S. crude stockpiles registered a small decline of 451,000 barrels.

Page 14 NewBase Specual Coverage The Energy world –June-08 -2023 CLEAN ENERGY Increased U.S. renewable and natural gas generation likely to reduce summer coal demand U.S. Energy Information Administration, Short-Term Energy Outlook, June 2023 We forecast that the largest increases in U.S. electricity generation this summer (June, July, and August) will come from solar, wind, and natural gas-fired power plants because of new generating capacity coming online, according to our June Short-Term Energy Outlook. The rising generation from these sources will likely be offset by reduced generation from coal-fired power plants. Natural gas remains the primary source of generation in the electric power sector, and we expect U.S. natural gas-fired generation will grow by 3%, or 16.7 terawatthours (TWh), this summer compared with last year. Additional natural gas-fired generating capacity and favorable fuel costs are the primary drivers of our forecast increase in generation from natural gas this summer. A large share of the new generating capacity built in the United States over the past few years is powered by solar or wind. The U.S. electric power sector added an estimated 14.5 gigawatts (GW) of solar generating capacity and about 8.0 GW of wind capacity during the 12 months ending May 31, 2023.

Page 15 Wind power has been the leading source of new renewable electricity generation in recent years and is an especially important component of the generation mix for some regions during the spring months. We forecast that U.S. wind-powered generation this summer will be 7% (5.8 TWh) higher than last summer. Much of the solar-powered generating capacity that has been installed in recent months is concentrated in Texas and California. We expect that new solar capacity will lead to a 24% (10.8 TWh) increase in total generation this summer compared with last summer. Many solar projects are also being built with associated battery storage systems to help provide power when solar and wind resources are low. The electric power sector has added an estimated 5.3 GW of battery capacity in the past 12 months, a nearly 90% increase. Data source: U.S. Energy Information Administration, Short-Term Energy Outlook, June 2023 In addition to the continuing growth in generation from renewable energy sources, we forecast 4.5 TWh more nuclear generation this summer than in summer 2022 as result of the planned opening of a new reactor at the Vogtle nuclear power plant. In contrast to this newly added nuclear capacity, a number of reactors at other nuclear plants have retired in recent years. We expect the increase in summer generation from solar, wind, and nuclear power to contribute to reduced generation from coal-fired power plants. Between June 2022 and May 2023, about 11 GW of U.S. coal capacity retired, and we expect 15% (36.0 TWh) less U.S. coal-fired generation this summer compared with last summer.

Page 16 U.S. electricity generation from natural gas was highest on record this past winter According to our Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), U.S. electricity generation from natural gas reached a record-high 619 billion kilowatthours (BkWh) during the most recent winter heating season (November 1–March 31), averaging more than 120 BkWh per month and accounting for 38% of the country’s electricity generation mix. Electricity generation from natural gas increased in the United States this past winter due to increased demand for electricity and continued reductions in electricity generation from coal. U.S. electricity generation from natural gas peaks in the summer when demand for electricity is greatest—largely driven by demand for air conditioning. A smaller peak occurs during the winter, when homes and businesses in some areas of the country use heat pumps, electric radiators, space heaters, and other electric-heating equipment to heat buildings.

Page 17 Overall, U.S. electricity generation this past winter was the highest since at least 1997. The increased electricity demand was met by natural gas, wind, and solar—all of which increased their overall electricity generation compared with the previous winter of 2021–22. In contrast, electricity generation from coal decreased compared with the previous winter. Data source: U.S. Energy Information Administration, Short-Term Energy Outlook Natural gas-fired power plants are relatively flexible to operate because they can ramp electricity generation up or down relatively quickly to meet demand fluctuations. Coal-fired electricity declined throughout 2022 and into 2023 because of a long-term trend of coal capacity retirements as well as increased competition from natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plants when natural gas prices are low. As a result, the natural gas-fired share of the U.S. electricity generation mix increased from 35% in winter 2021–22 to 38% last winter. During the same period, coal’s generation share fell from 21% to 18%. Renewables’ share of electricity generation also increased to help meet overall electricity demand. In 2022, 8 gigawatts (GW) of new wind capacity additions and 10 GW of new solar capacity additions came online, according to our Electric Power Monthly.
