SMART action
Specific
Goal should be clear and unambiguous. A specific goal will
usually answer the five "W" questions:
What: What do I want to accomplish?
Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing
the goal.
Who: Who is involved?
Where: Identify a location.
Which: Identify requirements and constraints.
17. 6/4/2014 17
SMART action
Measurable
Making sure you :-
1. Stay on track
2. Reach your target dates, and
3. Experience the exhilaration of achievement
A measurable goal will usually answer questions such as:
How much?
How many?
How will I know when it is accomplished?
How will I measure my success?
Indicators should be quantifiable
18. 6/4/2014 18
Achievable
Goals need to be realistic and attainable. The goals are neither
out of reach nor below standard performance, as these may be
considered meaningless.
When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin
to figure out ways you can make them come true. You develop
the attitudes, abilities, skills, and financial capacity to reach them.
SMART action
19. 6/4/2014 19
Realistic
Choosing goals that matter. You may need support to accomplish
a goal: e.g. resources, your superior, etc.
A realistic goal can answer yes to these questions:
•Does this seem worthwhile?
•Does this match my needs?
SMART action
20. 6/4/2014 Event Name and Venue 20
Time-bound (WHEN?!)
A commitment to a deadline to help you to focus your effort
on completion of a goal on or before the due date.
To prevent goals from being overtaken by the day-to-day
crises that invariably arise in your responsibilities.
To establish a sense of urgency.
SMART action

What progress have I made?
Have I put any theory into practice?
How does what I have been doing lead to me becoming
better at a skill?
How can I use this to plan for the future?
