A record label is a trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. A
record label is the company that manages brands and trademarks, coordinates the production,
manufacture, distribution, marketing and promotion and enforcement of copyright protection of
sound recordings and music videos. They also search for new and develop them as well as
maintaining contracts with recording artists and their managers. The term "record label" derives
from the circular label in the center of a vinyl record which prominently displays the manufacturer's
name along with other information.

Criticism
On May 2012 Sony Music filed charges against the website IsoHunt. The plaintifs claims in
the court document filled at the supreme court of British Columbia: "The IsoHunt Websites
have been designed and are operated by the defendants with the sole purpose of profiting
from rampant copyright infringement which defendants actively encourage, promote,
authorize, induce, aid, abet, materially contribute to and commercially profit from.”
In 2011–2012 Sony Music Inc. expresses explicit supports for SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act)
and the PIPA (PROTECT IP Act)

The EMI Group also known as EMI Music or simply EMI is a British multinational music company

record labels in the recording industry. EMI Group also has a major publishing arm EMI Music
