SYNOPSIS NO: READER TITLE: The Feeling of Geometry A Look At The Phenomenology of Architecture
AUTHOR: Juhani Pallasmma
In the response to Juhani Pallasmma’s text which value that mostly implement the
sense of feeling in architecture. In no doubt, it is true that the intention of spaces in
architecture is important to be translated in form of expression which it is widely
practiced throughout many years where the sense of spaces which bring the quality to
the building. Whereas in negative response that the work should be made in imaginary
response just to keep architecture to just as a form of art.
At which the writer subjected “the artistic dimension of a work does not lie in the actual
physical thing,” (Pallasmaa, "The Geometry Of Feeling. A Look At The Phenomenology
or Architecture", 2014) which is one of the highlight behind the viewpoint of the writer. If
the form just work in the spaces which isn’t enough to be workable in the architecture
where without imagining an actual physical being that live in the space. Just as
architecture has only existed and been built for human beings.
Architecture is originated from the needs of human. Just like from the ancient days, the
people build shelters from leaves and woods to keep themselves safe and alive which
still serve as the purpose of architecture until now with a gained in advanced
technological and knowledgeable time such as the present days to improve life of
human beings.
To a space that just focus on its experience, just to satisfy its interpretation to
architecture which made it to a not workable space, just like the expression according to
Adolf Behne in The Modern Functional Building, aside from its individual need to
function, form is “the consequence of establishing a relationship between human
beings” (Behne 1996 [1926]: 137). Form cannot work without its main function which is
to serve human being that is living in a space. In conclusion, in the contradiction
between either form serves function which is how the writer expresses his thoughts or
vice versa, both has to serve each other in the form of communication where one
cannot express itself indefinitely without the other.
