Targeted Assistance Program
 Students in the TAP program can be referred
by Lutheran Social Services (LSS) for non-
  credit courses and/or non-credit certification
  programs in Workforce Development and
  Continuing Education at Montgomery College.
 Pharmacy Technician
 Phlebotomy Technician
 Automotive
  Certification Training
 Building & Construction
 Computer Applications
 Child Care
 The TAP program is designed to provide
vocational training intended to lead to quick
  employment.

 BUT…we don’t want you to be stuck in an
  entry-level job.

 Moving up may require getting a degree.

 If you are interested in learning about your
opportunities in higher education, schedule a
meeting with Kim to discuss it.
 In order to take TAP classes,
  students must:
 Be enrolled in LSS or IRC employment
   services. IRC and LSS employment
managers will decide if the TAP program is
   right for you.

 Attend classes regularly & complete all
   homework assignments.
 LSS and IRC provide employment
services to all eligible refugees and
asylees. LSS works with the refugee
  center to create training programs
  that help clients find jobs.
 The following set of expectations have
been put in place to ensure that all
students have the opportunity to study
  in a positive environment.
 Language learning takes time, hard
  work, and DAILY PRACTICE!

 In recognition of this, TAP program
  instructors keep strict records of
  attendance.

 IRC & LSS all monitor student
  attendance.
 All students are required to attend at
least 90% of classes. Students who
fail to meet this requirement will not
  receive a certificate.

 If a student needs to miss a class, he
or she should notify the instructor and
case worker before the class if
  possible.
 Arriving late disrupts your instructor
  and other students.

 Being late is not appropriate in
  American culture.

 All students are expected to be seated
and ready to work, and return from
  breaks on time.
 Language learning cannot be done in
  class alone.

 Homework is an important part of TAP
  classes.
 TAP students are expected to
  complete about two-three hours of
homework on the days they are not in
  class.

 Failure to complete homework
  assignments limits student success and
disrupts the flow of the class.
 TAP classes are regularly scheduled in
the computer labs to take advantage of
  the latest language learning technology.

 The labs are a wonderful resource for
  students and should be respected.

 Please don’t bring food or drinks into
  the lab.
 Schedule an appointment with LSS or
  IRC employment managers.

 Submit the referral/registration form
electronically or bring it to the RTC
  main office by April 3.

 Come to class on the first day.
 Oral Communication for the Workplace
  Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1-3pm, April 10 - May 10.
    RTC room 244

 WorkKeys
  Mondays & Wednesdays, 1-4pm, April 9 - May 9.
