Media Religious Responses
1. To make our story more causable & therefore not random we asked
students in our media class “Why would the killer turn to religion?”
considering this is a strong theme within our film as we have religious
quotes and references through out. In addition we also carried out some
research on the internet of why people turn to religion.
Person : Question : Why would the killer in our film turn to religion
1 Killed someone he cared about
2 Someone tried to kill him
3 Worried about the after life, feels his illness is a punishment from
god.
4 Encounter with god (Spiritual Vision).
5 Still loves his wife even after committing adultery.
6 Certain experiences with his wife’s photo. (Every time he looks at it
sees a flash back of what he has done and regrets it).
7 Constantly repenting.
8 Last resort
9 Posters of bible quotes draw him to church.
10 Friends draw him to church.
11 Dreams about God talking to him.
12 Wife haunts him.
13 A woman he tries to seduce is a Christian and has no intensions of
committing adultery creating him to have a revelation.
Web responses to “Why people turn to religion”
“Fear of unknown is at the root of all religions; and all personal religious
experiences have their root and centre in mystical states of human
consciousness. Like drugs, the religions too may produce a psychotropic
influence on human mind; and stimulate the mystical faculties of human
nature. Even so, religions do bring a sense of inner happiness, though short-
lived, in a state of false inner tranquillity and balance; but over passionate
pursuance may produce mild euphoria, cause hallucination; and even alter
perception and thinking pattern.”

2. “There were four people who gave testimonies about how God had come into
their lives and changed them for the better. Each of these people had
experienced a revelation during tough times I asked one of the girls there if
this troubled her and she told me that it is true that some people only turn to
Christianity (and religion as a whole) when they need it. Her opinion was that
this is not a bad thing because it is during these low periods when people start
to think about their spirits, which in turn leads them to God. There is logic in
this, but then by the same logic it means that the religion that each person
turns to is the one that is most accessible, which has a lot to do with where a
person is at the time, his or her upbringing, family, and so on.”
