2. About the Product:
Shotbot is a mobile shopping application for users who spend a lot of time trying
to find and match specific products based upon visual and design qualities.
“They don’t know exactly what they are looking for but know it when they see it.”
The user creates a personalized “store” based upon a few added key words.
Shotbot stores can be saved, browsed and shared.
Shotbot allows the user to visually explore items quickly, select items then
decide to “see more like this” or “see less like this”.
Shotbot will update the contents of the user’s “store” with similar or closely
related items based upon those user decisions.
Shotbot will allow the user to see details, reviews and ratings of any items and
can add selected items to the shopping cart for checkout and secure purchasing.
About the Project:
I was given the constraint of creating a mobile shopping app for Alex.
5. DESIGN RESEARCH
Method:
I spoke with Alex and asked him about how he uses technology to
shop (day-to-day) and why.
I asked Alex to map out his day and I looked for things that Alex really
enjoys doing, his interests and where he thought he spends most of his
time online and on mobile. I asked Alex about the apps and products
he has purchased recently that he loves and why.
Findings:
Alex spends a large amount of time each day searching online for
products and technology that meet his interests.
Alex likes apps and products that help him save time and make things
more efficient.
Alex loves well designed, “smart” and inventive products, but wishes he
could spend less time trying to find them.
Alex loves to explore and is very visual.
Alex can tell almost immediately if he is interested in something by the
way it looks.
Alex discovers new products by exploring similar things to what he
already knows he likes.
Alex likes to really research the products that he likes.
Alex loves the experience of listening to and exploring music through
different apps.
Opportunities Identified:
Make a smart shopping app that will quickly allow Alex to visually
explore, discover and buy new products that appeal to him much in the
way he explores and finds music.
Potential users for this product:
People who explore new products online based upon visual qualities
and design.
6. DESIGN ITERATION | DESIGN HYPOTHESIS
ITERATION
Method:
Create basic user flows for each functional
aspect of the product. Show it to at least 10
different people and collect their feedback.
Revise. Repeat, revise, revise.....
Findings:
A descriptive name helps users understand
right away the basic function of the app.
Make the core functions simple and easy
to use and see. Users wanted the ability to
sort and see categories when desired.
7. DESIGN ITERATIONS | PROTOTYPE
Method:
Created POP prototypes that provide a basic MVP
user flow through the core functions of the mobile
app experience.
